Default Values of player debut game worn jerseys since 2015 draft

So I thought this would be an interesting little project, to see the prices of the jerseys worn by players in the first ever NBA game and how they have changed. The 2021 draft class haven't all sold, the ones who weren't starters on opening night will be auctioned later and I've not been able to find some older ones but here is what I have to show:

Seems like they're going for more these days, with the newer ones more towards the top. Then you look back at some of them and regret...

Feel free to discuss - there are quite a few I'd rather have than others at around the same price!
And if they sold today, what would they go for? Surely Luka's would be worth more than the Ball Bros (definitely more than Lonzo!!!). Even Franz Wagner which sold recently you'd think would be worth a bit more, especially when his teammate goes for $8k...

Crazy. A good chunk of these went for a fraction of what their NT TaoBao prime 3clr RPA's did their first year.

Wow... Scottie Barnes went for that much more than Evan Mobley...

Seems like someone got a good buy relatively speaking.

Best buys out there have to be Luka, Ja, Trae, that I can spot. Prices sure have gone up over the years.

Worst buy has gotta be paying $55k for Lonzo in 2017. Imagine what you could have bought in this hobby in 2017 for $55k.

And can't believe Booker for $3060... When his regular season ones go for that kind of price these days.

Awesome list, very cool to look at. One correction though, Booker’s photomatched jerseys sell for WAY more than 3K. The last one on NBA auctions sold for over $15,000. And there is only one left on the MeiGray website and it’s at $9500. They sold out of the rest a long time ago, and that was at 8K a piece even for single game jerseys from Suns losses with meh stats. But I do agree with you that $3060 for his debut jersey is an insane steal, so congrats to whoever snatched that bad boy! Thanks again for tallying and posting this list.

Default Values of player debut game worn jerseys since 2015 draft

Just like the card market, there has been an explosion in value on these.

Here's a look at the average selling price by year:

And now the Median price by year:

Two things stick out to me here...

1. How low 2018 was.
2. That the average price of 2020 jersey's was higher than 2019, despite the Zion that sold for $80k.

*one note, Only 9 2021 jerseys have sold so far, compared to 29 in 2020. Most of the names that have sold are bigger names, so I'm not sure this information is complete for trend analysis yet.

They have gone up a good bit but imo are still so undervalued compared to cards.

I've wondered if the game used market also went up some with the card market explosion. I initially got out of cards to pick up game used memorabilia so I have a few Meigray pieces (Dirk..Duncan..KG..Kidd..Russ) plus some in other sports

The market will get as big as the platforms (Collectable, Alt, Goldin, PWCC) let it.

Right now the trick is Tickets. If the right people gobble up enough Gamers and get platforms to go along with the push, you'll see prices fly up.

The game-worn jersey prices increase a lot but not nearly as much as cards have exploded.

Seems weird that that people would pay a million for a Zion NT logoman but then only $80K for the first NBA jersey he has ever worn that would have his first logoman he ever wore on it.

Market continues to rise on these.

Cade Cunningham sold for $33,000
Jonathan Kuminga sold for $15,200

The Cunningham was only worn for the second half, meaning there is another out there.

Interesting info.

There's only 1 NBA debut game jersey/player (I guess 2 in some cases), whereas there can be hundreds of other game worn jerseys.

Prices on some of these seem criminally low. How much is an authentic NBA jersey from the NBA store? $250? An extra $20 in some cases for a dude's game worn debut? Wow.

Also, it's interesting that none of these guys kept their debut jerseys.

The guys who are selling for near what it costs for an NBA store jersey are guys that don't sell many jersey's at the NBA store, I'd imagine.

But still, I'm with ya. Lot's of upside if you hit the right guy. Can only imagine what the Luka would do right now.

Yep you did. Too bad stadiums are now going away from paper tickets to virtual.

Was it ever known who the big spender of nba auctions /Meigray authenticated nba jerseys is? I remember a few years ago the same buyer bought all the all star game used jerseys. I know for that event only first half jerseys get sold and player keeps the second half jersey.

Yeah I was waiting for these to both finally be listed (way later than normal), and then all closed before updating, which I'll do soon.
Some of the prices from this season are a bit odd - who is Isaiah Livers and why did his go for $2300?

Yeah, the Steven Adams went for more... Because jtnbafan decided he wanted that one and I was never going to win it... I have been in constant contact with MeiGray since, trying to acquire it but it seems I never will. His was the most expensive from that class, but I think I remember jt coming to the auction a little late and he didn't go for the earliest ones (maybe Oladipo and MCW?).

Love this thread - thanks for compiling this info. I watched a few of these debut auctions this week. It's really cool to see some opportunities for value in the space. Insane that you can literally get the debut game jersey for less than a "RPA" card.

I've been collecting Giannis stuff from this year - particularly the City Edition NBA 75 jerseys. I've actually been more focused on this than cards as of late. Such a cool space.

Updated list now that the 2021 draft ones are finished.

Average price:
2021 - $3378.56 (I did not include GI jerseys of undrafted players ie Yves Pons for $1410)
2020 - $5052.18
2019 - $4195.73
2018 - $2331.34 (includes Landale that was sold with 2021, and MPJ that was sold with 2019)
2017 - $3498.13
2016 - $2601.39 (includes Simmons that was sold with 2017)
2015 - $2419.07

It's crazy that Morant regular jerseys are going for $12k+ these days and his debut only sold for that much...
Siakam still the best value of all time.
