Default Australian Card Market Died

Hey all,

Just an observation. Things have definetely slowed down her in Oz. I now scroll past sales posts without single comments, auction threads without any bids with $1 sb. Its crazy. Yet at the same time if you want to buy anything decent, Ebay Aus is mega expensive. I am constantly using Ebay US to buy cards as there just isnt much good stuff available. And when i try to sell anything good here, even low end stuff there just aint the interest anymore. Guess the pandemic kids all left! And the fact we just dont have the population here makes it a bit slow. Guess im just having a vent here for discussion sake. Wish i lived in the US sometimes just for the hobby/culture!

I'm intrigued by this take seeing as the Melbourne card show was nuts.

The Brissy one was also considering the weather.

And this year there will be another Melb, Sydney and Brisbane show.

And if you follow the PSA submissions site, there is so many Aussies subbing.

It's because Hairy left the hobby...twice. The first time, you guys could recover. The second though...sort of a deathblow

EDIT: Yes, I know he is from New Zealand and they aren't the same places!

I've bought a few soccer cards from Australian sellers, but generally shipping costs are to expensive for Australian sellers to be competitive price-wise.

This is hilarious. And I'm pretty sure it's been at least 4 times, maybe 17.

But hey, why leave when you can just hang around and whine all the time.

Honestly I've actually never seen so many new Australian collectors.

They don't know about BO because they are all on IG or FB groups.

Everything sells out in the stores, which is wild because 2 years ago there were almost 0 card stores and now cards are at Big W, K Mart, EB games.

Do people think there's just constantly 100s of new collector's each week?

I'm sure some have dropped off. But cards have also spread out with Soccer, UFC, Marvel growing larger and larger.

But you watch anything with the chance of Giddey in it dry up.

The Aussie Market is still pretty strong, especially for the local sports (AFL/NRL/Cricket) where products are all selling out in record time.

NBA is still strong as well but again products are already so expensive and when you add in the currency exchange as well on top its tough buying any sealed products.

As a side note the NBL (Australia's League) just had its biggest ever Grand Final Crowd for game 3 of the finals and is gaining popularity again.

Josh Giddey cards are selling very well at present!!!

I meant that wax is so overpriced these days, no one is breaking boxes or cases anymore and sharing their goods. It's dead because no one can afford it anymore, unlike the good old days when the box break section was FANTASTIC!

Man it was really cool to see all the cricket and AFL stuff in Melbourne. But it's a rabbithole I need to avoid. I already spend enough on NBA.

Ah yes, agreed.

It has been very quiet for years. It used to be really good. There's a bit more action the past year.

Would be good to see them build it up again. Not sure they want to.

Currently Graham is selling his Grant Hill collection and he is getting some crazy money. He has a lot of 90s 1 of 1s though as well as everything in PSA 10.

It's nuts

Why exactly do you @holes have to bring me up here..? I do nothing but contribute to the season/playoffs threads and yet you're having to have a go at me somewhere irrelevant.
Do I live rent free in your heads or something?
(And why...?)
