I came across a card that made me question how machine stamped serial numbers would effect a surface grade. I found a card recently that appeared to be stamped harder than normal. You can't make out the numbers from the back but you can see the indentation from it on the back of the card.
Would this effect the surface grade even though it's just part of the card? I know this probably sounds dumb and will likely effect it but some other scenarios I thought of seem to contradict it. If you or I were to draw on a card, this would effect the grade but an autograph doesn't. It also feels similar to a grading company giving purposely rounded corners (Pokemon) a bad corner grade or even a memorabilia card having points deducted because part of the card/surface is missing. I know there are manufacturer defects to account for but this is what the card is. The card was machine stamped with a serial number.

I can't speak for other grading companies, but I think PSA tends to be very lenient on this. The cards I collect are from the 1990's, so I can't speak for ultramodern. Some cards all have surface imprints with the way they are made. For instance, 1996 Fleer Metal all have the players name idented on the back of the card.
