Default Elephant in the room

The hobby as a whole has softened for sure. While the hobby GOATs of MJ,Kobe,Brady and Trout have softened also but the guy who has fallen off the cliff is Lebron. Is it because flippers/investors realize he will never catch MJ much less Kobe and don’t want to be caught holding the bag? Hell Steph is about to match Lebron in titles in a week or two damaging his legacy even more. To end up with only 4 tittles after constructing 3 super teams is embarrassing. The guy has taken quite a beating the last year plus. Discuss…Is now the time to buy or jump ship on Lebron.

Even more so this Finals series exposes Lebrons team manipulation and failures. Both GSW and BOS are great examples of 'built not bought' teams that built through the draft, built chemistry and have gone through the ups and downs to make it to the Big Stage. Great to see. Cs in 7.

That has probably created a lot of the freeze in the hobby. Unnaturally large amounts of money locked into LeBron, thanks to the hype men and an unnaturally shortened championship season. What they need is to bundle and securitize this sheet, so new capital can flow in. But I guess cards are not too big to fail.

Lebron is difficult to like. I’m dumping all of it between now and October.

I'm a buyer at the right prices.

Championships are overrated.

Yeah, most millennial Bron bois are realizing that he is never going to win a championship again. No one good wants to play with him so buying a championship is out of the question. His legacy is essentially done and priced in to his cards.

Millennial Bron bois are also realizing no one wants his cards. Gen x guys buy jordan and gen z guys like curry, Giannis and luka. Thus the 30-90% decline in Bron prices across the board. As alluded to above, the demand is simply not there because people, save a handful of Mebron loyalists who keep on passing cards to each other to give the illusion that his cards “keep on going up in price” and “I can’t win any eBay auctions for the cards I want because they only go up in price forever,” don’t like the guy. He consistently does it to himself.

Thus, Bron bois continue to face the growing realization that they won’t be able to retire at the age of 35 on their stash. They hate that their parents are starting to help fill out their McDonald’s applications for them again and hate to go back to work but understand that they can’t live in their parents basement forever, especially since their parents are selling their houses and moving to the Midwest, and mebron fans don’t want to move anywhere away from the coast, even if they have to put on their golden arch unis to prevent from doing so.

I still think LeBron's bigger cards are worth the hold. It is all the new guys in the league that are stealing his "excitement" as far as hobby values go.

Luka, Ja, Giannis, Lamelo, Ant...just a few guys there, plus this last draft class is going to have a ton of guys taking money away too.

If I'm a LeBron collector, I'd hold. No point to dump if his prices are down.

I like LeBron. His runup was always unsustainable, especially for the dumb stuff like Topps rookies and base Prizm.

I'd like an NBA auto of his before he quits, and now is a pretty good time to start picking up those numbered rookies although I guess they'll have further to fall.

In my book he will never be on the same playing field as MJ or Kobe because all of his Rings came because of who he teamed up with to win. I still believe that Kyrie was a much bigger reason why Cleveland won that championship than Lebron was. It was Kyrie taking over in the 4th and hitting all the big shots not Lebron. I also think that the "Bubble" championship comes with an * attached to it.

Lebron had all the talent in the world but I feel like he went about winning in all he wrong ways to cement his legacy in the same realm as the true greats of the game and that will forever be the stain on his resume.

Being a Bulls fan, my dislike for LBJ is up there with the anti-acting fans. With that said you can't deny what he's done for the game on a global scale since 2003. He's a generational talent when all is said and done. Another thing to keep in mind is his card autos are no longer produced.

I agree his impact on the game has been tremendous. He’ll always be the face of the player entitlement and superstar team era. The worst period the NBA has been forced to suffer through. It can’t end soon enough.

Kobe only won because of shaq and gasol otherwise he'd be lucky to have one ring.

Kyrie, Love and Bosh never were superstars. They never did anything on their own.

Wade was a borderline superstar that was gifted a ring by the league/refs.

Lebron is polarizing. But there's enough that like him that his prices aren't declining because of a lack of hobby love. They'll decline, certainly, because of a tanking economy.

Love him or hate him, he's a top three player all time. That ain't changing.

2007 Heat - Swept 1st round
2008 Heat - 15-67
2009 Heat - Lost 1st rd
2010 Heat - Lost 1st rd

2007 Raptors - Lost 1st rd
2008 Raptors - Lost 1st rd
2009 Raptors - No playoffs
2010 Raptors - No playoffs

Some real superstars those two. Luka on his own won two series by age 22. Sorry, 23.

its hilarious and as i predicted several years ago, the trolls will have a field day during lebrons twilight years. during his twilight years he was named male athlete of the decade and got his fourth title/fmvp. just this year his old ass was leading the league in scoring during a year of injuries that derailed the lakers chance at anything. but you all have fun, seeing what has already been posted in this thread in such a short time, no amount of truth will make any difference. you will always see lebron at the top of all time lists and will always see him at the top of the hobby's popularity. ill see myself out of this lebron circle jerk hate thread.

All four are hall-of-fame players, so if you want to play semantics by not saying "superstar", you still cannot deny they're some of the top players in the league.

Kevin Love never made the playoffs when he was the alpha dog.

Kyrie Irving never made the playoffs on his own either. He went into Boston and almost blew that up.

Everyone isnt a superstar.

Again, playing semantics with superstar...still hall of fame players.

Not sure how anyone can argue against that or try to downplay their careers.

LeBron’s Card Ladder player index is down 25% the last three months.

MJ -11%
Kobe -17%
Luka -14%
Curry -15%
Durant -29%
Giannis -1%
Brady -17%
Trout +0.3%
Griffey -4%
Mahomes -14%

Economic outlook hurts, but LeBron gets dragged down more than his peers because of who he is. Nothing fundamentally changed for LeBron or Durant from March 1 onward. I wonder why they’re down the most…

I’ve never been much of a Lebron fan since “the decision” and admittedly much of that has to do with the media and fans wanting to crown him the GOAT after every accomplishment rather than anything he specifically has done.

I own zero significant Lebron cards and I think the run up in his prices was a bit extreme. That said I wouldn’t be dumping him either. I think it would be foolish to count him down and out. Additionally this country LOVES to tear celebrities down and build them back up for a comeback. If Lebron finds his way back to the finals, the hype train will go off the tracks again.

Expect they are declining because of a lack of hobby love. LA's putrid season and a hobby decline are only accelerating the drop in prices.

Interesting. I guess that polarization creates more variance for him.
