Default PSA damaged my card... what to do?

Hello! I sent in three cards to be graded.. satisfied with two of them (AD mosaic genesis PSA 9 and Kobe SP holoviews PSA 9). However, this card which I thought had a good shot to get a PSA 10 got damaged on the top edge, likely from the PSA case.

Anything I can do about this?

Send those pictures to "Quality Assurance Request" under your "PSA Customer Request Center." They say you only have 5 days to do so... The slab definitely caused that.

Was already graded at that point though right, so something else caused it to be an 8? Stinks either way.

Thanks brotha!

And I think it got an 8 because of that damage. It was a really clean card

The card is graded before they slab it, something else made it an 8.

Yeah but it goes through QA check 1 and 2. I’m sure grades can change during that stage

QA check 1 and 2 don’t exist. They just are there to buy PSA more time to get through everything.

Do you have good scans of the exact card before sending it in?

this. I always HQ scan every card before submitting.

side note, I had a thread a few years ago noting that the bumpers in the slabs can potentially damage the cards in the exact manor shown above, leaving the same signature bump marks.

my guess is your card was indeed an 8 before hand and the said damage was incurred post slabbing. usually happens on thin card stock cards.

No sure about your damage, but you thought this card had a shot a 10? Really? Looks like a 7-8 (at best) to me. Im guessing you got an 8 for centering & corner issues...then this extra damage came in the slabbing/shipping process.

agree with this. centering and corners = 8. edge damage was post shipment.

About the centering of this card, it looks off, but I don't think I've ever seen a Kobe Freshly Forged that had good centering. Every copy of this card has crappy centering, it's weird.

I’ve had good success with PSA 10s. Yes the corners don’t look super sharp on the pics but there were no whitening to the naked eye. No surface issues and edges looked great. Like previous post said, centering seems off on this card but centering is based off the beginning of FRESHLY and end of FORGED. I said i thought it had a good shot at a 10. I’ve had worse cards get a 10

Naked eye and magnified are 2 different things. I agree with your damage assessment post grading. The card was an 8 prior to the damage and you can’t be upset with that.

PSA has cracked down on giving out 10s. Just because you got worse 10s in the past doesn’t mean this should have gotten a 10.

Default PSA damaged my card... what to do?

Lol geez people.. I said I thought the card had a good shot at getting a 10... I never said it should have absolutely got a 10. I know PSA is so inconsistent at grading 9 vs 10s. I’ve had worse cards get 10s and better cards get 9s. I use a magnifying glass to check damage. All I know is the card was in good condition without edge damage and now has edge damage, which is what I’m more upset about. This is a PC Card and anything PSA 8+ I would’ve been fine with because I’m keeping anyways.

Didn’t think I was going to bring out the grading police lol. Main point is PSA damaged my card and that shouldn’t happen in a slab from the #1 grading company.

Photos of your card before you sent it in?

Card looks like it was factory cut large, and was damaged during slabbing because the large cut was missed.

I have a damaged Kobe from PSA as well. It's a thicker card and I believe the damage was caused due to the case pressing tightly against the card. Definitely happened after the grade was given. (PSA 9)

I think they need to start using slabs like Pro-Mold sleeved magnetic holders, where you can actually fit a sleeved card in it. That will stop this problem. And all other companies should follow suit with the use of these types of holders.

I definitely wouldn't want a penny sleeve on my card in a slab. That kills the presentation
