I bought a 1990 Takara Hideo Nomo back in the day as a kid from a Japanese toy store. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any sales data on the card. The PSA pop report shows they gem pretty easy and almost every card is a 10. Mine is currently with SGC as I wanted it slabbed since it's the first baseball card I ever bought with my own money. Is it worthless in this condition? The card has a little bit of yellowing in the upper right hand corner.

You just stated you had a sentimental attachment to it, so its not worthless. I have a 2000 Troy Aikman Upper Deck Patch Auto that's worth a lot more to me than money. The same with a Peyton Manning Triple Threads Auto. I know some day someone that inherits it will sell it but it wont be me.

The Ichiro 1993 Takara is extremely desirable, along with his other two Japanese rookie cards. I love the aesthetic to some of these, and the Nomo you posted is no exception.

This one is a keeper. I can't wait until SGC gets it back to me.
There are a bunch more I still need to go through but I only have cards through 1992. One year shy of hitting an Ichiro. |

Nope, there are no mo' Nomo collectors out there.
(Sorry, couldn't help it! )Actually, since he played for Detroit that one year, I'd like to get a signed Tigers card at some point - got a ton of other players now esp after a recent buyout, but he's not one of them yet... |

Love it. I used to work for Kintetsu, and have a ton of Japanese jerseys.
Still can't believe Nomo pitched a no-hitter at Coors Field. One of the most deceptive pitching motions in MLB history. |

That's cool. I got to see Nomo play in Japan a few times but never in a MLB game. So many people forget that he opened the door for Asian players to come over enmasse. I'm happy my mom saved this one for me.

Murakami was the first in MLB, but more Japanese players definitely followed Nomo. And then there is Ichiro . . . |

I’m going all in for a 1993 Tamara Ichiro. Time to liquidate some other stuff to get the money together.

I have numerous 1993 BBM Ichiros somewhere amongst the clutter, as well as a few sealed sets. If you're interested, I'll let you know when I find them, prior to selling elsewhere.

For a number of years my primary focus was collecting Nomo. I was a pitcher growing up and one year I showed up to practice with my best Nomo windup impersonation. (This was when he was still in Japan and relatively unknown in the US). Suffice to say my coach put a quick end to my new wind-up.
***In 93 and 94, Calbee, the Japanese potato chip maker, used to provide 1 baseball card of a Japanese baseball player per bag of chips. Since I was working at a Japanese Supermarket at the time I ripped as many as I could but never got the Nomo. Last edited by Minelayer; 12-02-2020 at 08:36 PM. |

I'm feeling very emotional about this card today. Farewell old friend.

Fans compared Nomo winning the ROY over Chipper was worse than Woodson winning the Heisman over Peyton Manning.

I have a Nomo collection somewhere buried but haven’t seen it in about 5 years. Have about 20 IP in that collection.

With baseball being hot and Shohei looking like a stud, I know the card is probably worth more today then it will ever be for awhile.
I'll be looking for decent 1991 replacement to fill the hole in my collection.

What a gut punch this sale has been. I guess I miscalculated the Shohei Ohtani effect on other Japanese players. Hopefully I'll make enough to at least cover the grading fees.
