Does Panini Have Collation Issues?

I just saw a video on instagram of a reputable breaker opening up Mosaic. He opened one pack and saw a certain grouping of cards and guessed the next pack would have a specific sequence of three cards with a Zion rookie being included. When he opened it, it did indeed have the cards in the order he suspected with a Zion rookie.

I'm a singles buyer, so I don't really open many boxes at all. I also think that if the boxes aren't hand packed, it's impossible for it to be truly random. But it's made me curious, is Panini's collation really that predictable, or are people just noticing the patterns because so much product is being opened?

Just about every company has issues re: collation.

The reason it sticks out like a sore thumb currently with regards to Panini is it’s been Ja and Zion running together or the classic Ty Jerome, Ty Jerome back to back - making a lot of rips feast or famine.

It’s not Panini. It’s the printing company. Which Panini and Topps both use. Card collation is not random. I could open one pack of anything retail Prizm last year and know exactly who I wasn’t getting in that box (Luka).

If you get Mosaic Bruno Fernando, Dominque Hall Of Fame and Darius Garland Rookie Debut- Zion follows, or will show up. I've seen Blasters, Hobby and FOTL boxes that has the same pop ups. And that is what I got in my box.

He should of stopped after the 3rd pack, but it would of been unethical and it wouldn't make a great video. Let me add I also got Ewing USA and Giannis base. And my Zion base was in the back of the pack.

In Prizm if you get Matisse Thybulle, you're getting Zion. In Optic Zion and Ja run with Herro, Gafford and maybe Langford? In Mosiac the combo is Ty Jerome base, Ty Jerome debut, Dominique HOF, then Zion.

This is all base. Not sure if there's collation on colors or not.

Thanks for the feedback everybody, I didn't know how widely known this was. I thought it was a problem decades ago that didn't really appear as frequently now. I guess with the sheer amount opened now and the people sharing their breaks, it's near impossible to randomize the collation of hot sets to the point where the pattern is undetectable.

Panini does not short print their cards...…...they short pack their cards...…….

Good luck finding as many Omari Spellman's as you find Luka's...………..

Didn’t the Orange reactives run together? I remember seeing a lot that I think had RJ base RJ debut and Ja base as three of the four but I don’t remember the fourth. That was a great hanger to get for sure!

My LCS is a small shop. The past few years with NBA products in such high demand (and expensive), they have not gotten a whole lot of wax.

So... when I am super bored I watch youtube videos of box breaks. You can learn a lot about a product (any sport) by watching boxes and cases being opened. Yes there are runs. Yes they can definitely be in your favor.
