Default 1984 Topps Miscut?

I have an opportunity to pick up a collection and he has a 1984 complete set. with the trimming world taking over, doubt is always there.

I don't think this would be a trim job... because it's terrible if so haha. But should I be concerned?

Thanks!

I don't think so. Measure them against a common.

Picture doesn't help either I'm sure. I'm going later today so I'll definitely measure but wanted some quick opinions from the gallery.

I can see what you’re talking about on the top of the Elway and the bottom of the Marino I believe

They look like they are a little diamond cut where they got tilted, I’ve seen a ton of 1984 topps cards cut this way and always wondered if it was from the factory or not. I can’t tell you if they have been messed with or not. Honestly I don’t think PSA can either. I would compare them to the rest of the set and if the rest of the set is cut the same then I’d feel good about it, if the rest of the set is more square cut I’d be cautious.

But honestly I’d just keep looking for a set that you are happy with. If you are questioning these cards now you will always question them. My advice would be to find a set you really like and go for it even if it costs a little more. These are very plentiful, and after a few years I forget what I paid, but I never forget if I wasn’t happy with the condition of the key cards.

Edit: I just saw it was part of a lot, I would just price it out with a low value on the marino and elway. Assume you’ll probably have to replace them, or at a minimum have a return risk if re-selling.

Marino has large print defect, so not going to be worth a ton at any rate.

It's part of a larger lot, tons of sealed sets (1995-2010 all sealed). It's a great deal but a bummer on these cards for sure.

1984 Topps was notorious for diamond cut cards. Quality Assurance/Check wasn't a priority. Getting the stuff in cases was.

The Marino is a filler card at best, but the Elway.. can't grade edges and corners in that photo, but centering and register are about as good as it gets for that card.
