Default The coronavirus package... How long would you wait?

Hey all,

My dad has the coronavirus. He found out on Wednesday and was put into isolation for 2 weeks. He was exposed to it a week ago from yesterday. On Tuesday he mailed me a Walter Payton autographed football. When he sent it, he had no idea he was infected. The question is, how long would you wait to open the box? Should I give it a few more days to naturally disinfect?

Multiple sources say 24 hours on Cardboard, I'd add a couple days to be safe

The high end estimate for Covid-19 surviving on surfaces is 3 days, but even that was under lab conditions so in the real world, 3 days should be more than enough.

Hope your dad continues to feel fine with mild symptoms.

Minimum 24 hours. Personally I'm spraying the outside of the box (and/or wiping it down). Then still waiting 24 hours. From everything I've read if its me I'm waiting 96 (ensuring the 72 hours has been met and/or exceeded). Then just to be safe opening with gloves and then putting back away for a bit.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for your dad, and congrats! One of the best to play the game!

Hope you Dad has a full and speedy recovery. Latest update is only 24 hrs on cardboard. It maybe longer on some other surfaces, but as someone stated that's probably in an ideal laboratory setting.

CDC said the best way to open a package from a person with coronavirus is via this method.

I read that due to temperature changes it is highly unlikely someone could get COVID-19 from the mail.

As for the football...

I might rub the whole football down besides the area of the autograph.
