Another eBay buyer to block

Everyone should block eBay member breedm-42

Just got a message that a card they bought from me is now under a fraudulent charge case with PayPal. Apparently eBay user stole someone’s identity and the funds are being held on my account. Will inevitably be screwed out of the card and the money on this one.

Why would you be out the money?

I sent the card fully insured with signature delivery and it was delivered to the address in NH. The person filing the claim is in Australia. Apparently their identity was stolen by someone in the US who bought the card. Paypal has since frozen the funds in my account. PayPal seller protection should have you covered. From what you’ve said, it falls within the scope of it.

Have you called Ebay and talked to them? IMO at worst Ebay pays out of their own pocket by refunding you.

That’s not how it works. You will keep the money. The fraudulent activity is between the buyer and their credit card company. Or in this case the person in Australia trying to get their identity back.

Called eBay and they said fraud claim was filled through PayPal so not their issue.

That’s what I thought but not what PayPal rep told me. I even brought up seller protection and he said he is sorry and they will fight it but not guaranteed.

Just be patient and stay on top of it. There’s no way you will be out the card and the money.

Yeah I don’t think the sellers would get hosed, it’s probably just frozen while they determine/confirm the transactions that were indeed fraudulent.

Also, not sure what the OP is thinking telling people to block someone who had their identity stolen? If that is the case I’m sure the account has already been frozen so there’s no immediate need to block, and once they get their account back I’m sure they’ll either change their user id or at the least not want to be blocked from buying things on eBay ever again

from what I read, the ebay account is not linked to the person who had their ID stolen. it was opened with the victims credentials (name and CC info) but the scammer used a US based address for them to ship the card to. might be worth filing a police report or at least google the address. the scammer may have used their real mailing address.

Ah got it that makes more sense. Thought it was like someone’s account got hacked and they just flipped the shipping address. Seems stupid to buy things on eBay when committing fraud, what if the items take more than a week to ship? When my CC # was stolen before they bought GCs from every place in a mall in Florida. Seems easier to get away with

This is correct. The US based scammer created a fake profile that they used to do a buy it now on my card. When I called eBay they didn’t know about it yet because claim was filed through PayPal. Said they would monitor the account. I said are you kidding me.
