Default eBay best offer

So this new eBay thing requires me to select a payment method before making an offer, which is great. I can pay for a purchase with $$ in my eBay selling balance, but it doesn't look like I can use that balance to make an offer...hopefully that makes sense. Am I missing something? Seems odd.

That’s correct. Needs work. Which will probably take years for eBay to do.

It allows you to select a different payment method after the offer is accepted.

I noticed this too. Was disappointed because I have to reimburse myself after payment from my eBay balance.

Ebay needs to force the auto pay thing onto any auctions won too. Imagine if some of these larger operations on ebay inflating thousands of card prices and never paying for anything had to have a card or paypal on file that auto-paid. It would look like the card market died overnight.

I went through that today also.

Instead of using funds

I used debit. Then transferred some funds to bank to cover purchase

That is goofy

I’m sure it will fix it in 2025

Also say I have 3000 in funds on eBay. They only allow me to use 2000

Would just cause tons of returns probably

If eBay could drop the authenticity guarantee to 50 bucks and open up locations all over the United States so it would only cause 1-2 days extra for delivery instead of 7-10 days now. With only Florida and California locations now

That would be the dream scenario

If eBay authenticates the card the buyer can’t return the item

They are going to have to institute fees for returns also. They move way too slow to continue using the marketplace as a primary resource anymore. Add return fee of 10%, refundable once you receive the card and click you are satisfied. This should have been done years ago. Bogus product and bogus returns are a huge problem, not just in cards.

I have not been able to do this.

Same, I don't even get an email that my offer was accepted until after it's been paid for.

That's weird. I am asked to choose a payment method before making an offer, then get the notice my offer was accepted and told to pay for it. I have never once had payment automatically paid for me. I wonder if there is a time limit before it automatically pays, because I always pay immediately. Or possibly they just haven't implemented the entire system for everyone. Who knows?

The biggest issue with this is the fact you cannot combine shipping after making multiple offers with the same seller. As soon as you submit the offer once each is accepted it charges each offer the full shipping.

I had this issue pop up earlier this year and eBay basically said the only way around it is to have the seller change the price/shipping of every single card or remove all the cards and have the seller create a new listing with all the cards one listing. I tried this with a seller who I know well and have made lots of purchases with and it was a pain in the neck. 6 months later I have all but stopped buying multiple cards from sellers simply because it is always problematic.

Yeah that is a problem. Whenever that happens with me (as a seller) I refund the buyer the extra postage they paid but from my experience as a buyer not many do.

Has any buyer taken the time to message a seller and ask them to, at least temporarily, turn off the payment required option for offers? I think many sellers don't even know that they have been opted into the program, and I would guess that if you told the seller why....that you wanted to make offers on multiple items but not have to pay for each accepted offer individually....that some would have no problem turning off the option.

I contacted eBay several times and even talked with their guy at the Burbank Card Show about the issue. Each time the reps were surprised to hear the actual issue with combined shipping and agreed that it was a problem. They would then escalate the issue to try to find a solution only to say that the only answer they could find was to have the seller zero out each card's shipping or to remove the listings and then add one bulk listing with all the cards.

I tried for like a month to find a resolution to this issue and that was the best I got.

easiest way is for seller to refund shipping on the paid items...
I have no problem doing that if it helps sell the items...

Purchase with credit card that rewards online shopping by giving points or cash back. I get 3% cash back, effectively cutting sales tax in half.

I do that too but it doesn't help with the combined shipping.

They’re too lazy to fix the problem. Sellers have the ability to automatically adjust shipping costs when multiple items are won/purchased without autopay. There is absolutely no legitimate reason why they can’t adjust the code to do the same for autopay. They’ll do it at some point. But I wouldn’t count on it happening in 2023.

Sucks that you lose the 30c transaction fee each time
