Default "Price is built in already"

I'm working from home today, but I'm not really working. So, pardon the random thread...

I know we always talk about several players that their cards have "price built in" for...

* Deep playoff run
* ROY
* MVP
* Playoff berth

Etc.

Who are these players?

Are Luka prices for a playoff run already built in?
Are Giannis prices for Finals appearance built in as well?
Are Embiid prices built in already for a long playoff run?

You get what I'm saying...what players have these prices built in on their cards now? And what players still have room to grow?

Everybody except Giannis and maybe Tatum.

Embiid and Morant can't stay healthy

Everybody, except for retired players and players that almost nobody collects.

I get what you guys are saying. It's always the "nobodies" who shine in the playoffs that get double or triple their regular season pricing. It's just a matter of finding those players now and taking a risk (calculated risk)....

I'm looking at some guys now...very cheap.

Guys with stuff built in:

Embiid: MVP
Ja: Deep playoff run + solid performance
Durant: Another title in the next few years
Curry: Finals appearance

Upside potential guys on the radar for the playoffs (if they perform or go far):
Donovan Mitchell
Jayson Tatum
Darius Garland
Nikola Jokic
KAT

The theme: All young guys on teams that people aren't expecting to make it far in the playoffs, Last year's example: Trae Young.

Embiid is gonna finish around ~70 games and would have played almost every game if he didn't get Covid back in November or whenever which cost him 3 weeks/8-9 games. Not a concern going forward.

Other than that stretch, they've rested him on 4 back-to-backs this year, that's it.

The team I'm looking at are the Pelicans...could be a surprise team in the early rounds...

I'm a big Embiid fan, but he has proven time and time again that he isn't durable. There is 8 years worth of data that shows he is a huge injury risk.

Embiid only played 31 games in his first 3 years in the league, the following years he played 50-60. His constant injuries are definitely a concern.

I'd say its all about exceeding expectations. For this specific playoffs i'd set it at this.

Players who need to win it all to see a bump:
Durant / Kyrie
Giannis
Curry
Harden
Butler

Players who need to make the NBA finals to see a bump:
Embiid
Jokic
Ja
Tatum
Lebron
Trae
Luka
Mitchell
Derozan
Booker
Butler

Players who need to make their conference finals to see a bump:
Kat
Edwards
Garland
Trae
Lamelo

Leaving out some secondary stars / stars but you get the idea. If you've had playoff success before or won a championship I think you need to at least match that in order to see an increase. Lebron is kind of a goofy one where his team has performed so poorly that I think he actually has some real upside if by some miracle they can do anything. Also in general the older you are the more success you need to have.

I feel like Trae already got that first bump. The get to the Conference Finals bump. And not just because he made it to the ECF (which is a big deal, he was only 22 at the time). But it was the way he did it. He went in to MSG and didn't just beat the Knicks - he ripped their souls out. He #@#@#@#@ing SHHHHH'd MSG. Next round they were going against quite a few peoples finals pick, Philly. And he went through them like a hot knife through butter. Trae was unstoppable, a good leader, and showed he can get his team to rally behind him. Finally, they get to the ECF - broken and bloodied. Against the team who would go on to win the finals. And they didn't just roll over and accept their fate. They played their absolute heart out, and if Trae didn't get injured there is a very real possibility we saw a different outcome.

NOT TO MENTION THE SHIMMY. Between the SHHHHHH at MSG and THE SHIMMY against the Bucks - he not only cemented himself as one of the best players in the game. But also an entertainer, a leader, and a stone cold killer.

A 50 piece or game winner will have any of the aforementioned young players' prices spiking...Ja included.
