Default Is Karate still cool?

Figured with the Polar Bear v Gorilla thread that Off-Topic might actually be returning to its light-hearted roots.

So let me ask: Is Karate still cool?

I mean, the 80s are a big thing right now and few things were cooler in the 80s than knowing karate. So is this true or is it all MMA and Tap-Out shirts now for the cool, tough kids?

My sons take karate. I am not cool, and they are like me, so ... using the transitive property, karate might not be cool.

Ju jitsu and Judo are cool. Karate not so much.

Why does the poll have 3 choices for it being cool and only 1 choice for it not being cool?

First question: was karate ever cool or just funny?

Come here and let me karate your face. Then you can decide.

You have bigger issues to deal with based on this clip of you being attacked by your own chair

I was in karate when I was young. My brother has my nephew in Ju Jitsu. He had a choice and wanted Gracie Ju Jitsu. He has a blast and loves it.

I don't think it's something to brag about or put on a resume but it's cool when you roundhouse kick some ass.

i think it got a huge bump from the original Karate Kid.

now, there are just so many "more" fighting disciplines that are more useful to people. What I mean by that is the interconnected nature of the world has exposed people to more martial arts rather than just the Judo/Karate I was used to seeing as a kid. And if kids take a martial art to defend themselves, Karate is less and less useful. Honestly if my kid wanted to take a martial art, I'd sign her up for BJJ in a heartbeat because I think grapples/submissions/chokes are more useful than strikes.
