Default Starlin Castro Hall of Fame??

Alright, I'm ready for all the condescending answers but really if you consider it, he is on pace to be. Before people ask, I am not currently selling any Castro, nor do I own a huge Castro stash. Many voters see 3k hits and automatically put the player on their ballot, I think Castro has a good shot to get there. At age 25 he already is near 1000 hits. He has yet to enter his prime. I realize he has already had two down years (not consecutive but just two down years in his career), I don't believe he is currently starting either so he will have to get traded as well. If he plays until he is 35 and keeps up roughly the same pace, that will put him at about 2700 and once he is there he can bounce around from team to team until he finally reaches 3000 hits. Okay, begin the ridicule. Oh yeah I almost forgot, I am not a Cubs fan.

Zero chance of 3000 hits or the HOF.

Just curious why you guys think this. I respect your opinions but I think he could get it back together with a change of scenery. Maybe a smaller market and different hitting coach could help him out. He still is on decent pace with his hits at his current age.

He needs to do a 180°, but he has way more of a shot at 3K than people in this thread seem to think. Put it this way, if he got back to 2011 Castro, his chances would be a lot better.

Hits have been going nowhere but down since 2011. But even if he still had 200 a season since then, he's still only 25. No way to tell whether he has a shot at making it.

If he gets 3,000, will he make it? Probably. But you could say that about any player.

Tobacco is bad for you, I'd never lay a finger on a blunt But in all seriousness I don't see why people think he has no chance. I see why people disagree and why people think he won't but I just don't see thinking he has no chance.

I 100% agree with this and that was purely what it was based off of. I'm not even sure I think he should make it if he reaches 3000 hits, I'm just saying I think he gets to 3000 hits which will make people vote him in.

He definitely had a better chance in 2011 you're right on there. and if he keeps only having 150 hits in a season I don't see it so he will have to return to form.

Could *insert name of player under 25* reach the HOF if he puts up HOF numbers for the next 15 years?

True, but for example Machado is at nearly 500 currently. He'd have to average 250 hits over the next two seasons to be where Castro is right now.

If he reached 3k hits I do believe he'd have a very strong chance at the HOF but if he doesn't reach 3k hits I don't think he has any chance at all because that is the only category that really stands out for him. His OBP is very low, he doesn't run anymore & he's got just a .720 OPS. His power numbers aren't great either (never hit 15 or more).

So I say no to both.

The biggest problem with Castro isn't his talent or lack thereof, he doesn't focus enough to even play, let alone at a Hall of Fame caliber. Is there time to change? Sure. He simply needs to cut down on the mental errors.

I don't believe that Castro will make the hall of fame, but who knows, if he does in fact reach 3,000 Hits it will be a much harder decision than it appears to be now

Regardless of which case is stated for either side, it's so weird that someone that basically sucks at baseball is the subject of a HOF possibility thread.

Does Starlin Castro have ADD? I'd be curious to know.

He might. Castro plays like he has bipolar. That's a definite. One moment he's terrific. The next he has no business in the lineup.

He's hitting .262 over the past three seasons...
Shoe-in 1st ballot HOF if I've ever seen one.

Should he be passing it on the left or right hand side?

Normally a player progressively gets better each year if they are going to have a HOF career, arguably Castro has been getting worse each year. Specifically his hit total each year has been declining.

I just wonder if all those mental errors are due to some sort of concentration problem.

Using the "favorite toy" method

1. Number needed to achieve goal: 3000-969=2,031
2. Projected seasons remaining: 24-.6*age=24-0.6*25=9
3. Established production level: (last season*3+previous season*2+previous previous season)/6=(3*154+2*163+183)/6=162
4. Projected remaining total: production level * seasons remaining = 9*162=1458

Odds:[Projected remaining total - (Number needed/2) / Number needed]=(1458-(2031/2))/(2031)=22%

The actual odds should be a little lower, since we're giving him credit for all of this year's hits without subtracting any from the projected remaining.

Just be a fan OP and let it play out, not even sure why anyone would want to discuss this, especially for a mediocre player.

Honestly he needs to become a full time starter again to even think about any type of accomplishments. He's been better since he was demoted to a non-starter but the 2011 Starlin Castro is not what he is right now, very inconsistent.
