Hi guys, I've started a Kobe PC collection a while ago and I'm focusing on his key rc cards that I can afford
![]() Was planning to get a Score Boad or a Press Pass auto but I don't know on which one to focus as the most valuable and also I've read stories of fakes etc., so any help or suggestion would be appreciated thanks!

I would stay away from any Scoreboard and Press Pass. Too risky.

It's that time of the year for this thread again...
![]() HobbyKings.com :: View topic - Fake Iverson Auto back up... with bid! HobbyKings.com :: View topic - Real or Fake Help with Kobe Scoreboard Auto There are legit Autos from Kobes RC year and that is what I'd pick up if I were you, but be careful of fakes, and stay away from the next year as SB went bankrupt and all those were blank! There were some that were signed later IP, but the majority are fake - and not even good fakes! Plus, so many people had blanks and tried to sell that they didn't even keep track of what serial #'s were faked - here is a funny look at 3 different fakes with the same serial #... eBay used to let you message people so I'd warn buyers about them, but then gave up as I couldn't contact them, and figured it would be a cheap lesson on fakes... Now I just have a folder on my PC with hundreds of images of all the fakes... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I actually think that Press Pass ones are okay, but the autographs (signed in blue) don't showcase well on them (Kobe wearing a dark high school jersey). Be sure to ask to see the back of the card to make sure that it's not a base card with an aftermarket autograph.
Scoreboard ones are the ones to really watch out for. Last edited by bjho852; 10-25-2016 at 12:26 PM. |

The 1996 Press Pass Kobe Bryant Auto is actually one of my favorite cards I own. Here's a scan:
![]() As you can tell (also previously stated) the blue ink doesn't jump off the card. I have never heard of any fakes of the pack-pulled version with the COA on the back of the card. However, as previously stated, someone could just take a base card and forge his signature. That's why the back of the card is so important. There are real pack-pulled Scoreboard Auto's also, but Scoreboard does have a bad reputation they earned. The prices have climbed quite a bit on legit 1996 Kobe Auto's in the past few years. Also, these are the closest thing to a Kobe "RC Auto" that you can find, whether they are "unlicensed junk" or not. If I had a personal collection of Kobe the 1996 Press Pass Auto (graded BGS with a 9/10) would definitely be a card on my list. I bought my ungraded copy in 2004 and I've been happy with it since. Hope this helps a little in clarifying that Press Pass definitely has certified copies of Kobe's first Autograph card with a full signature that he didn't use for a long time. I know I'm not the only fan of Press Pass early Auto's of many players and I wish they'd make a comeback so I could pick up cheap first year Autograph cards.

guys what do you think of this one, I'm thinking of pulling the trigger, but the auto looks very fade to me although it's graded 10, what you think?

Press Pass is a legit company and always trustworthy. Anybody saying otherwise is just wrong. They never had issues with backdoors or unsigned proofs.
Scoreboard did have some issues and you have to be careful. However, they produced the true Autograph rookies for a lot of players. If you know what sets to avoid, you should be okay.

Wait for a better one. The autograph was probably bold when first graded, but faded over time because of the over exposure to sunlight or florescent light.

I like the Press Pass auto and really liked their product line. Many Bold, Large ON Card Autos before players got all "Signed Out" with later releases.. Some of the best looking Autos I have are Press Pass Autos..
