Default The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2016 Black Gold Collegiate Football

The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2016 Black Gold Collegiate Football

by Tracy Hackler

So much has changed since Panini America first solicited the all-new 2016 Black Gold Collegiate in early May. Like, everything. Based on resounding feedback from distributors, hobby shops and collectors, the collegiate debut of Panini America’s popular Black Gold brand is no longer a multisport product. Indeed, when the product arrives in hobby shops across North America next Friday, it will do so as 2016 Black Gold Collegiate Football, a product devoted exclusively to the greatest legends and most recent stars of college football.

2016 Black Gold Collegiate Football will be extremely limited with a content mix that has been dramatically enhanced. Each pack of 2016 Black Gold Collegiate Football will deliver one base or parallel card numbered to 99 or less, three autograph or memorabilia cards numbered to 199 or less (including at least one on-card signature) and one Rated Rookie Logo or Collegiate Logo Manufactured Metalcard numbered to 199 or less.

Each two-pack box will deliver three to four autograph cards (at least two on-card) and two to three memorabilia cards. At the case level (eight boxes per case), collectors can expect one on-card autograph card from Jared Goff or Carson Wentz numbered to 99 or less, one on-card autograph from Ezekiel Elliott or Derrick Henry numbered to 99 or less, and two on-card autographs numbered to 99 or less from a group of players that includes Paxton Lynch, Braxton Miller, Corey Coleman, Dak Prescott, Joey Bosa and Laquon Treadwell.

Additional on-card signers for 2016 Black Gold Collegiate Football include current NFL stars, legends and Hall of Famers such as Aaron Rodgers, DeAndre Hopkins, Eric Dickerson, Hines Ward,John Elway, Marcus Allen, Richard Sherman, Rod Woodson, Roger Staubach and more.

In preparation for next Friday’s release date, the Panini America Collegiate brand team spent a healthy portion of this week overseeing the packout process for the product, resulting in the revealing Quality Control Gallery that follows. Enjoy the sneak peek and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for continued coverage of 2016 Black Gold Collegiate Football.

Black Gold always looks nice, the value is just never there. $100-200 boxes have always been the easiest way to throw away money.

Not sure if I'm in the minority here. But I cant see why they would put the big metal Rated Rookie logo on a Collegiate card.

So and so was not a "rookie" with Ohio state this year or last.

I dont mind NCAA pictures on early NFL releases. But it erks me to see rookie card tags on an NCAA release.

They are a rookie in the NFL. But this isnt an NFL card. End Rant.

Why did they post pics? Why didn't they just say, "it looks like last years".

I'm cool with these as a college collector but I'm laughing at the Michigan card shown above. Denard and Funchess are good choices, but Clark was booted from the team and Rawls transferred. Not that I mind seeing them was Wolverines, just an odd choice.
