Purple is usually always behind the refractor. Purple hasn’t been over 4K for a PSA 9 while refractor has been consistently over 4K

We caught the Tuesday and Wednesday game. Man the sound of that homer was amazing! My son was in the prime spot for autos and was able to grab a Kershaw auto yesterday! Too bad Ohtani missed his start, but at least we saw a dinger!

Refractor > Purple. The original refractors/colors will always hold better in the long run than the Purple/Yellow/Waves/Blue moon craters/speckles/grass/skid marks etc.

I'm surprised to hear that a card twice as rare is worth half as much but I guess purple is kinda fugly. If it were green grass I would understand more. guess the market will market.

An example you're likely to be more familiar with is 2012-13 Prizm silvers vs. green.

IIRC, greens were rarer but silvers had more value. Print-run is only part of the equation, aesthetics and parallel (in our case, "silver" vs. purple/green) are also important variables too.

Well, like most things, a lot of it is timing. To simplify structure..

1) Bowman (CRASO) came out before Bowman Chrome (BCRASO). CRASO was the chase card of that spring along with Heritage Low Red Ink auto. Shohei doesn't have a 1st Bowman since he was never an American prospect, but if he did, it would be the pitching. CRASO is ingrained in the memory of collectors from 2018 as THE Ohtani card with the original Japanese style signature. It was as if he signed every CRASO card with effort to not disappoint American collectors. He stopped caring pretty quickly after TC and Finest though

2) Bowman Chrome (BCRASO) was released in Fall (September) 2018 and most people weren't paying attention anymore. Sho had TJS in October, just a few weeks after release, and most of the autos were redemptions. Everybody forgot about the bust Asian guy and were buying Acuna, Soto, Gleyber, Bieber, etc. 2018 was a loaded class.

3) Since the BCRASO cards were redemptions, all the auto were post TJS and they were scribbly stiff. I still think they are ugly as hell today to be honest. People like me saw the auto and opted for the much nicer CRASO auto. It seems that newer collectors are willing to overlook an ugly auto, perhaps due to all the bad signers out there.

When CRASO first came out, it was hitting 2-3K for a base. At the time, that was absolutely unheard of and insane. It later dropped down to 1-1.5 Post TJS and if you were really a masochist you could have picked some up for 5-600 in 2020. BCRASO came out and sold for 5-600 post TJS (Around release time) and dipped down to 4-500.
