Perhaps it’s due to your ignorance of the pricing. These megas cost retailers $20-$25 more per box than previous Chrome releases (of baseball, Bowman U football, etc). So Walmart and other retailers are not jacking up the price to make extra profits. They’re making about the same amount per box as other Chrome mega releases by charging $85 (versus $60 for Chrome baseball, for example).

My lcs has been sharing some of the financials with me on what they paid. I have been in talks with them about becoming a partner.
54.99 per mega
34.99 per blaster
250 for hobby, and 475 for jumbo.
This is just what they were paying. They didnt get the option to buy hangers. They bought those after the fact which is why the sell them at 35 each.
Margins for these are about 30%. On the retail side. Obviously they are selling the hobbies and jumbos at secondary pricing.
I wouod imagine these are the same numbers that MJ holdings and other distributors are paying.
Lots of mouths to feed with distributors. And topps set the msrp.
Topps also factors in the buy backs. That is why Topps chrome baseball megas are 40 bucks with an atrocious rookie class outside of a few guys.
Another thing of note people keep saying Topps printed this to the moon and I get that. Yet prizm was printed non stop for several years.... need more prizm???? Change the format.. hobby, fast break, choice, international, plus all the retail sku's.
Unfortunately its the same wolf just a different sheep's clothing.
