Fortunately, there can only be one first year issue.
It will be interesting to see what topps decides to do for 2025 gilded. I hope they don’t screw it up like what they did for the hidden gems this year with various colored parallels.
What else does 2024 have going for it?
-13 rookie logo cards that won’t be repeated as rookie logo cards in 2025, headlined by some potential future hobby legends.
-Ohtani in his first year Dodger uniform, commemorating his first World Series ring and 50/50 season.
-the first ever unique insert set for the topps gilded line.
-a really nice design in my opinion. They really stand out in hand.
-condition sensitivity. Gem mints are not easy to find for this chrome based set providing for a grade premium.
-a stellar veteran checklist with staggered career timelines which gives the set longevity.
- a small enough print run so that not every set collector and player collector can own a copy.
- a good number of collectors for this set. We don’t see the exact same card surfacing repeatedly.
-if this insert line becomes more popular with each subsequent annual release, a legendary following may ensue.
Hey, I get it, it’s not a set for everyone. Nothing is. But it presented me a challenge that I haven’t enjoyed in over a decade, and that in itself makes this particular set worth following.
