The last line I added based on your, er, memorable experience, sure, but the actual poem was by John Gillespie Magee, Jr., and that's just a part of it.

It was memorably used by Reagan in the memorial to the astronauts lost in Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.

I'm glad you made it through. It did seem touch and go there for a moment. I've only taken a handful of flights in my life (in the air, that is), and so far my worst experience was someone bringing a particularly pungent turkey (I hope) sandwich on board with them in a styrofoam leftover box after a layover.
