For the free play bracket, all players are unlocked. Perhaps you drafted incorrectly?
For the person, on day 1, who wishes to start investing, there is literally no player you cannot buy.

So, example:The referral link I posted. If someone joins from it, and it's capped at 3 joins, they have to buy 7 cards to get the free card. The free card is topped out at a T3.
So if a person wants to build their idea of an Allstars team with Judge, Acuna,Shohei, etc, they can on day 1. I assume you are familiar with fantasy? I wasn't
Anyway, play to player transactions are ETH only. You can buy it through them or use what you have, if you have any.
The auction cards can be paid for with ETH or a debit card.
Per the "Commons leagues" which means cards that cannot be sold or traded, you get 120 points to build a team with. My team is below. I have to win to swap, to upgrade. Takes 4 game weeks, which is 14 RL days, to have enough cards to field 2 teams.
I am not at a 2nd team yet because I can't get a danged pitcher worth slotting for 2nd team
So, as you will see below, no players are locked for new players, hence my question of are you surenit was sorare
