So I've rewatched the Super Bowl several times and have listened to a few of the top analysts break down his game and how the Chiefs played him. To sum it up:
The Chiefs sold out to stop the Eagles running backs and dared to put the entire game on the back of Hurts. That meant making him keep the ball in the run game by not committing defensive linemen to him, and giving him beatable coverages, provided he could make good throws. They knew he'd make plays, but bet that he'd make enough mistakes to give them a chance to win.
And you know what? He almost did enough to beat them. I still can't decide if it was the right strategy or not: On one hand, he dropped 35 points on you. On the other hand, you won the Super Bowl.
A high stakes game of chess was being played there.
