I started collecting Ersan Ilyasova in August 2005 when the first products was released for the 2005/06 NBA season, Upper Deck ESPN. My goal from Day #1 nearly 17 years ago was to collect every single card of his. Going in I didn't know if that would be only a couple seasons worth or if he would stick and have a long NBA career. Things were certainly up in the air in the late 2000's as he left the NBA for Spain for a couple years. He came back and played up until the 2020/21 season. I think this is the end of the line for his NBA career and will probably have to wait until he officially retires before he may have any more cards produced.
I never looked at it as an investment, and it certainly is not one. It was something I enjoy doing as he was on my hometown team for most of his career and he was someone I could thus follow closely while he played as well.
