Kane has not been superior in the CL. Assists weren’t a desperate attempt, they were part of my original point. Mbappe has played as a wing for a substantial portion of the time he has been with PSG. Accordingly, his contributions as a goal scorer and a playmaker are an important part of the analysis.
I forgot about the Pastore/Lavezzi juggernaut. And the year that Monaco won the CL behind Mbappe.
You are going out of your way to diminish an extraordinary young player who has proven on every stage that he is already in the conversation about the world’s best strikers and who still has years to mature. Nothing I have said is a knock on Kane. He has been a very good striker and goal poacher whose game is now developing to the point that he contributes in other ways too. But the point remains, Mbappe was doing things as an 18 year old that Kane wasn’t doing at that age, and Mbappe is doing things as a 22 year old that Kane wasn’t doing at that age. It is not a matter of club or position. Mbappe has done it at multiple positions in the domestic league, in the CL and on the international stage.
