Psychology Today did a pretty interesting study on why conservatives are the way they are, distrustful of others, holding their beliefs as priority over fact, etc. It had to do with the way they're wired and the order their body's response to the perceived threats travels through the brain. Ill have to see if I can find it. It was interesting because it spoke to why they're such a challenge to convince, argue, and debate with. The belief systems they have are so strong that new thought or new info has little impact to their formed beliefs. Super susceptible to echo chambers, conspiracy theories, etc.
