Patriot Act was well before my time in paying attention to politics, but my understanding is that the government wanted to tap phones and use surveillance and whatnot and Republicans were all, “I have nothing to hide, and if you don’t have anything to hide then you shouldn’t be opposed to it for the sake of security.” Those frauds don’t believe in America either. Throw them in the furnace with the Democrats who hate freedom.

Funny thing is... I was pro lockdown early on. Was in your same position debating with a pro Constitution buddy. We gotta save the sick and the elderly, myaannn. And then I watched the Democratic governors play political games with freedom. You don’t get to pick and choose when protests are okay and when social distancing is required. No sir... that’s not how this works. The same, “how could you possibly vote for Trump?” gets asked a lot. That’s how. Play stupid games, win four more years of presidente el stupido.
My bad - I spoke in generalities. I shouldn't have automatically lumped you into that group.

I was just questioning how the same republican party that pushed for the Patriot Act under the guise of "safety over freedom" is now pushing for the complete re-opening of our country under the guise of "freedom over safety."

I agree. One of the most damaging things that has been done during this pandemic was the complete 180 done on public gatherings while pandemic restrictions were in effect. It certainly damaged the public's trust in the reasons behind the restrictions.
