I know another BGS 9 sold not long ago for almost half that price, but this one has higher sub grades and there was a PSA 9 that sold for $32k (w/ the 20% buyer fees) on the Heritage Auction site late last week. The seller had originally said he'd accept 14 - 15k but as two dudes were getting into a bidding war on the HA site for the PSA 9 during the extended bidding session, multiple offers were coming in for this card & I knew that if I wanted it I'd just have to bend over & hit the BIN as the seller was out on vacation.
For me, this was a bucket list card that I should have bought long, long ago (much like the Prizm Red SSP), so I figured f**k it as I have enough other equity built up in other Mahomes, Lamars, sealed wax, etc. that I can unload to pay for it. I also have a Red Optic /50 Rated Rookie BGS 9.5 Auto with a bold non-streaky 10 auto, the base /99 Red in both BGS 9.5 & PSA 10, the Red Optic RoY Contenders /49 in PSA 10 as well as PSA 10 or 9 versions of the Red /99 The Rookies, Gridiron Kings, Illusions and AKA so really wanted this guy to round out the Optic Reds, so to speak.
Also, there's a dude now selling a different PSA 9 and he's asking $32k based off of the HA sale...

Nice grab given the HA sale. Proves my point that the 9.5 sale for 20k a few weeks ago was not "shilled" as had been claimed (and actually, now looks like a bargain!). This card looks better than the base contenders IMO (reflective surface, team colors, etc.) and is serial numbered to just 75 copies (vs. ~ 200 or so on the base contenders as claimed by others). Also, the BGS 9 that recently sold for under 9k was a
steal if these comps are true. Sometimes you have to step up.
All just my opinion
