Surprised for sure. I get the Sox didn't meet expectations this year. The team is still going to have 90 wins on a world series hangover year. Also, yes his bullpens has always been his achilles heal. Still, he is one hell of a GM. He will be fine. He is either going to retire or go somewhere and take his fourth team to a world series.
Hopefully this means JD, and Porcello are leaving. They got their rings and now I can go back to rooting against the Sox. Mookie will be the interesting one.
