That is correct. They cant create a product using NFL or Team Logos in their imagery or in writing (They cant even type the word Chicago Bears as an example). But there is nothing stopping them from buying a fully licensed NFL jersey, and incorporating a swatch of that in their products.
They are essentially reselling a piece of something they bought, that was created and fully licensed, and using part of that in a new retail product.
Much like any buyback product that is out there. If new Leaf bought back some 1990's baseball cards made by old leaf (who held MLB licensees at the time) they can then have those cards reinserted into new packs. But they cant create new versions of those old cards and make fresh copies without holding the proper licenses.
They just cant take logo's & players photo images and create a new product incorporating those.
Now I do remember reading somewhere that team colors and other attributes could NOT be used either. Something about confusing consumers into thinking a product is endorsed somehow by the team or league. Not sure how they get around that since they clearly show players wearing team colors.
