I personally refuse to pay for "training" and "licensing" for a Constitutional Right. Michigan is currently discussing Constitutional Concealed Carry in the House. In the meantime, I have open carried. Hopefully it passes since a Right that is licensed and taxed is not a Right, it's just a privilege.

Since you're looking to conceal carry I recommend something compact, not full size. Everyone will have a different opinion as to what you should get. Some will say Glock, others won't touch a Glock with their friends 10 foot pole. I personally have a Taurus PT111 G2 Millennium 9mm with 2 12 round mags. No matter what, there are going to be people who will say don't get this or that because this.

What caliber? A .380 is fine, I like 9mm personally, same caliber, different cartridge. It's in stock pretty much everywhere and is ~$10 for 50 rounds of FMJ. You can go with larger, .40 or .45 but it's unnecessary.

You'll need to find what feels good in your hands. If you're looking for small then the new Ruger LCP II might be a good option. A highly recommended compact pistol is the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield. There's tons of reviews on youtube of pretty much every firearm made. Hickok45 has excellent reviews.
