The argument for Deron being better than Paul was that while Paul certainly had better accounting stats, Deron OWNED Chris Paul head to head. Like completely owned him.
And since Paul had some really good teammates for a number of years, Tyson, West, peja - teams that felt like they should at least be comparable to derons jazz teams, the jazz were more successful, going to the WCF once and the second round twice in derons time here.

I had Deron Williams teammates as way better FWIW. Okurr, Boozer and Kirelenko were all almost as good as D Will. Milsap was also right there. Even had Korver there for a run. Ronnie Brewer, Wes Matthews both above average wings. Those teams were really deep and really good.
Those Hornets rosters were super mediocre and carried by Paul IMO. Terrible depth, no second star. West was good not great. Not much else.
But I agree that Deron was really good. Always liked him. He's had a fantastic career. Just don't think he was ever the best Point guard, and his prime was pretty short, and even during his prime he'd miss 10+ games a year.
