Influx of new COMC members with the new UD announcement?

So with the new announcement by UD and their e-pack initiative - do you think we'll see an influx of new users? Granted they'll be mostly hockey but this might be a nice injection of fresh blood. Opinions?

There's a link in each of the Baseball, basketball and hockey forums. Pick your poison.

Yeah, I think there are about 32 threads so far...Seems like a great idea though...

Everything that can increase sales is good thing.

that site is struggling to work already

guess it got hit hard....working again

dustin42 01-28-2016 01:29 PM

I would assume it would attract more users and UD will offer this with other sports in the future.

I am sure there will bugs to work out at first. Always is when a new site is launched in any business. Can't be worse than the government insurance exchange when it first opened :D

yeah, I am sure tons of people jumped on right away....

seeing this partnership makes me re-think the rumor that Upper deck was trying to buy COMC awhile ago

Saraste 01-28-2016 05:34 PM

As I posted in one of the other threads, I'm guessing it will be hockey only for the foreseeable future unless there is a loophole in the licensing agreements with Panini and/or Topps for their respective sports. If Upper Deck can use a potential loophole to make digital cards in the other sports without being allowed to make physical copies, then they will have something significant on their hands.

UD doesn't have any other major sports licenses.

Did they lose college licenses also? I don't buy much UD boxes or cases.

yes..

Didn't Topps have a hand in ThePit at one point? Could UD be trying to make their move into the secondary market? I don't think it would matter one way or another to me but if they can get their name back on the map then maybe they can get more licenses.

In term of marketing, it's fairly big, lots of action on Twitter today. I would think there will be an influx, perhaps small, still might pick the curiosity of UD loyalists

If upper deck have some decent non sports on there in the future and we can use comc credit, I'll def buy some. I think it's a bloody brilliant idea

hundley 01-29-2016 02:55 PM

This certainly couldn't hurt, definitely gets the COMC brand out there more than anything they've done in recent memory. And it's not simply some generic advertisement either, as it'll put butts in the seats and get people to actually make an account, which isn't something you can say for everything else of this nature they've tried.

Plus, I've been hoping to see COMC get more involved with the manufacturers, as there's a lot they can do with their various fulfillment services. This could really prove to be a great first step.

I just hope UD doesn't find a way to screw COMC over like they've screwed over virtually everybody they've ever done business with.

comc said they're working on using credit to buy from UD. We all know this could take years if at all.

Just bought a pack of digital cards. I had to test the waters. I am able to transfer the UD Portraits (P-11) card of Tuukka Rask already. It shows up as a physical card in my collection. I think the prices are way higher than they are at retail or online hobby stores. That'll probably be my only pack besides the free daily one if I remember to open it.

mjohnatgt 01-29-2016 06:06 PM

I just bought two packs for fun and got a relic (Erik Karlsson) and a Code to Greatness (Wayne Simmonds). I moved them both over to COMC very easily.

mjohnatgt 01-29-2016 07:39 PM

Looks like the silver base cards are flooding the site, 10 each of most base cards currently listed. Looks like it won't be worth waiting around for the conversion to a real cardboard card...
