Noah Vonleh Potential?
Want to see everyones thoughts on him after getting a fresh start in Portland? Should get alot of playing time and they traded a very good player in Batum

Portland players rarely get any hobby love.
See Lamarcus Aldridge |
I predict anywhere between kwame brown and Karl Malone.

He seems to be the one with the most mystery and potential. Wingspan and athleticism for sure, but smarts unknown. We are assembling a team of hopefuls. We are destined for a mid first round pick. And, Lillard values are falling, even in pdx.

That hobby love has crashed considerably since his rookie season. |
I watched Vonleh a lot his full season at Indiana. That is, I watched him until he got into foul trouble routinely in every game. The fouls he commits are maddening and stupid, lunging for the ball and blatant over the backs. He has terrible hands, almost without fail fumbling whatever pass he catches in the middle. Then, he has no explosiveness around the basket. Whenever, he faced a center his size or bigger he was easily shut down. The numbers he compiled were against lesser opponents. That being said, he has decent touch for a big man. He is a good shotblocker and rebounder when he holds his position. He was thought to be going even higher then the 9th pick Charlotte selected him at but slid down the draft boards some right before the draft. I was astonished he was thought that much of. I wouldn't expect much out of him but being an Indiana University fan I hope he proves me wrong.

I'm pretty high on him too. I was upset when the hornets gave up on him so quickly. He seems like he has some pretty nice tools. And yeah they'll probably count on him some what with LA gone. I think Neil Olshey has a pretty good eye as a GM so I wouldn't be surprised if does well. |
If you like early foul trouble, you will love Vonleh. I am talking 3 fouls in 6 minutes early. Very poor body control, very slow to close out the paint.

I'm surprised the range wasn't Robert Sacre and Michael Jordan... |
The player Vonleh has been most often compared to is Chris Bosh so I would say him.
|
Surprised his cards are selling reasonably well. I know he's in Portland now but Charlotte didn't even want him...Charlotte...

Charlotte is impatient. They decided they needed to rebuild a few years ago and were just AWFUL. However, when they signed Al Jefferson in 2013 they ditched the whole build through the draft plan and tried to put together a competitive team to try and make the playoffs. They wanted to deal Zeller but Portland wouldn't take him and wanted Vonleh. Vonleh didn't get to play much as a rookie because the coach wanted veterans in the game (He played Jason Maxiell over him!!!!). We quit on him way too early. My friend trained Jeff Taylor this summer and asked him what he thought of the deal, he told him it was stupid because you could see the talent Vonleh had in practice. |

See Lamarcus Aldridge[/QUOTE] Define hobby love in your words, because I think some people try to use it interchangeably with "extremely valuable" when that doesn't constitute "hobby love" for me. Damon Stoudamire Clyde Drexler Bill Walton Damian Lillard Brandon Roy (before his knee injuries) Rasheed Wallace By that definition, I mean just think about each franchise, there is not always a massive demand for players after their first 3-4 years in their careers unless they continue to do extremely well. Look at the Orlando Magic, one could say there are only 4-5 players that get "hobby love", or the Chicago Bulls, they have 5 players that get "hobby love". Same goes for the Spurs, Pistons,.... even the Celtics and Lakers have about 7 and 10 players respectively, and they're the most accomplished franchises. |
Chris Bosh 2.0 potential
Absolute beast in NBA summer league. |
Yea i agree on the bosh comparison, that would be a ceiling for me
