Is 2015 Topps Tribute the biggest production blunder ever by Topps?

For those unaware, literally every autograph I have seen is smudged, scratched, or both. Possibly literally every auto hit you care about is damaged, which cannot by said about 2012 Five Star, which had about 70% damaged corners. I feel really genuinely bad for anyone who invested in this product, as it was going to run anyone ragged in the first place.

Thought I'd just post this to see what everyone thinks, not really looking for a debate or argument. Guess this could be an "In Memorium" for the money people invested. Sucks to see folks busting and getting 50% value on their hits.

This should be a $40 a box product.

This is pretty bad. Probably the worst I've seen since I got back into the hobby 5 years ago. A lot of the autos are Grade 8 or Lower. Just saw a 1/1 Scherzer that was in incredibly bad shape.

It has to be the card itself right? Something on the surface is jacking the ink up. There's no other reason.

Yeah. I don't get why A) they didn't TEST IT beforehand, and B) find a marker than works. You can't tell me they didn't bring more than one marker. The silver non-base autos I've seen look great.

We had a customer open a box and was surprised of the smearing, but it was some of the lightest smearing we have seen.

He did hit a Pedro Martinez Die Cut.

Was the die-cut in different ink than blue?

I noticed this looking at cards on eBay. I wonder what happened? Some look fine, but there are quite a few with light/smudged spots on the auto.

Just saw this one. Seriously, how pissed would you be if you pulled this?

Is that the ones you can barely see?

Appears to be well signed and can be seen easily.

Oh good. There was one signed in silver on a white background on eBay from Pedroia.

This is maybe the first product I've ever seen where I fully believe Topps owes people their money back. In those terms, yes ... it could be the biggest Topps blunder ever.

dhcollecting 03-18-2015 01:24 PM

i think they might have used a new type of finish and it did not dry out fast enough before they were stacked. I know they tell the athletes to spread out the cards and let sit for a few minutes.

I'm sure Topps noticed the issue but ship out anyways because they know the collectors are powerless to do anything about it!

If you bought Tribute I say you demand a refund from whatever you bought it and force them to deal with Topps! This is BS!

PadresFan86 03-18-2015 01:31 PM

Complete crap. I'm glad I didn't purchase any. This is why you should check the cards out on Ebay before buying into a product.

Wow, that is complete garbage. Grade A bag of stinking poo.

cardozo 03-18-2015 01:40 PM

Horrible effort, might be one of the few topps products where it helps getting a redemption :(.

duwal 03-18-2015 01:41 PM

Imagine pulling this one, Pedro's autograph is pretty much gone

xbignick 03-18-2015 01:41 PM

Reminds me of that time they had artists do sketches and when they were released they all look stripped of the paint. Some people guessed they were suppose to be made that way but then past posts showed the artist made them correctly and not in that style. What happened with that anyway?

Haze28 03-18-2015 01:41 PM

How can they pack that out knowing the cards are F'd up? I work in the printing industry and we have scrapped thousands of cartons because of a print flaw without batting an eye because we know the customer won't except subpar product. Amazing.

Autograph is not gone at all.

It is the scan we are rescanning it now.

jumbogorilla 03-18-2015 01:43 PM

Whack. So Whack.

nikpounder 03-18-2015 01:44 PM

Anyone think this may have happened after pack out?
