Bowman Hobby vs. Bowman Jumbo

I am sure there have been threads on this, but I didn't see any....I really did look too....

I am planning on opening some Bowman on Wednesday, but wondered which was better: Bowman Hobby or Bowman Jumbo? My LCS guy always says jumbo, but I figured I would ask the masses. Any advice and reasoning?

I can also go jumbo case/hobby case, but I don't know if I'm spending that much yet.

Sure you looked hard? :p

General consensus seems to be that jumbos are more 'fun' (I agree), but the odds are stacked up better for hobby (I also agree).

Haha....if the thread title didn't say "Bowman Hobby vs. Bowman Jumbo" I flew right past it! :D So, it's really a toss-up....more fun vs. better value...

Doesn't it usually happen where colors are more plentiful in hobby and jumbos are more for if you want lots of autos?

wwejhardyrox 04-28-2014 03:38 PM

I have hit better personally in jumbo in past years. I also enjoy jumbo more.

Non-color/inserts are better in hobby

Color autos are easier in Jumbo.

About par for the course most times.

Coming from someone who has been busting quantity of Hobby and Jumbo cases of both Bowman and BCDP since jumbo's started. Jumbos USED TO BE much more loaded. In my opinion, and experience, this no longer the case.

Most jumbo cases have 2 color autos, some with 3, the rarity with 4. Most hobby cases also have 2 color autos, with some having 3. If you can get into hobby cheap enough, I would much rather have 2 hobbys than a jumbo. I would make sure to not "overspend" on just a couple of jumbo boxes, as more likely than not, you will hit 3 base autos.

Well jumbo odds this year should have approx. 4 color autos per case if odds are correct. Yet to see hobby, but if you got in early, i think jumbo was a much better deal.

I definitely agree with this. If you got your jumbo cases for $50-75 less than hobby cases are at now then there is no doubt it was the better buy. I think the odds of color autos in jumbo are at 4.18 per case or something like that. Every other box basically should have a color auto, AFLAC/UA/PG autos should fall every other jumbo case, plus there is no telling yet how often the wave packs will fall(could be like '13 BDPP or they could even it out where you get more in jumbo). I was irritated at first at the odds on some of the inserts but I find that some of the other stuff will be easier to hit than in the past so i'm happy with my choice of going with Jumbo.

I just got a little more info from my LCS....

$780 Hobby Case or $65 a box

$1150 Jumbo Case or $150 a box

I would snag up some hobby cases at $780 each. That's a good buy right now.

So, $780 is a good buy, but how about jumbo? I almost think 2 hobby is a better bet.

messier2 04-28-2014 08:31 PM

I have terrible luck with Jumbo boxes from all years. Hobby all the way for me.

Here's how I see it...you have a CHANCE to get 3 colored autos from 3 loose hobby boxes. But, you have "no" chance of getting 3 colored auto from one jumbo box (they always mix in a base auto somewhere). Of course there are always that odd box, but they are few and far between.

The jumbo isn't as good of a deal. The hobby is a great deal and you should get all you can at that price. That's like paying for 10 boxes of the case and getting the other two free. Lol.

Qwasian 04-28-2014 08:48 PM

I just hope to hit a couple of money cards, then I don't really care whats in the rest of the cases, lol......

I've done decent with jumbo (single boxes only) and did awful on the 1 hobby case I bought in 2011, so that's probably what makes me hesitant. The $780 price is easier to manage right now though.

im in the same boat got around $650-700 and my LCS is charging $140 for jumbos $65 for hobbies

excel_b 04-29-2014 07:15 AM

I pre-ordered the Jumbos at $905 back in November... Perhaps I should sell them at $1200 (same prices as Blowout's).

Not too sure yet - I admit I am a gambling man. :)!

I'm thinking the same thing. Got my 2 Jumbo cases for a little under $1600. Strongly considering reselling them or maybe bust one and sell one.

As has been stated in some other threads, the shipping and fees depending on where you sell can often make selling cases harder or not worth the small profit. This is a supposed to be a great year with Bowman, I say go for it, you won't lose too much even if you get an avg. box.

Rufusyo 04-29-2014 11:27 AM

I Have called around to find prices on cards in the area. My LCS was apparently considering giving it up and didn't pre order any so regular Hobby boxes will cost me $80, while Jumbo Boxes are $150.

Trying to decide if I should rip half a case of hobby, or three Jumbo Boxes.
