Q: Do Some Basketball Base Cards Drop in value as they get older?
 

Hey everyone,
new to the forum and kind of a newbie to collecting ~ 4 months

Anyways, I know that rookie cards and cards with auto or throwback threads increase in value as they get older but does normal base cards of not so famous players value drop overtime? i notice that lots of players from the 90s have very low base card value like $0.25-$0.99

I have lots of base card of players that arent so popular. And generally do some cards go down in value even if the player is famous?

Who today buys cards from the 1950's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's? Sure there are pleanty, but not most.... Newer collectors come in to the hobby and tend to stick with newer players. That's just how it goes.

Then as most people "grow up" they tend to leave the hobby... so who's left to buy all those all base cards? The few ramaining collectors of that time. If they even want the base! lol Most people today are spoiled and couldn't care less about base NOW, imagine later... haha I know this wasn't question, but something to think about.

The question was about 90's base... so yeah, I say most base cards from back then have definitely dropped.

Almost if not all cards will drop or increase in market price based on demand. That includes rc, jersey, patches and everything inbetween.

Kobe base rcs sold for much higher between 99 and 03 than they do today.

In general concerning your base cards? The price doesnt change on them. They are common. The only thing that changes is the demand on them. THere is literally no demand for base cards from sets of the 90s and 00s. THis is the reason they dont sell or sell well period.

yeah true lots of people are interested in newer cards with autos or numbered cards and not so much buys older cards unless its jordan and the other old hall of famers...
So my base cards that i have now probably will have its value drop alot as i grow older? but for my rookie cards and my trevor ariza throwback thread its price might go up?

yeah but how about base card from this period? like 05-12 cards? still works the same? like it will drop in price after a good amount of time?

Well to help the spoiled people these days(lol :p) the card companies have made many base sets serial numbered, so they're limited, but only time will tell if they do well or not.

Some releases don't even include base anymore.... :(

those are usually the $200+ boxes... but i know panini hoops 11-12 wont have much value anytime soon unless u get some auto cause its full of base...
and yeah depends on the player if he suddenly does well the price is probably gonna go up like jeremy lin's rookie cards

yep, base literally holds almost no value; only way people sell base is for specific set collectors. i'm guessing though once a base card reaches past a certain age (ie. bowman 58 or 60s topps) base cards will see some sort of value, albeit very minimal.

I also wouldnt say that all rc cards or patches/jerseys increase in value. it all depends on player demand, for instance how well the player plays in the future or how popular he is amongst collectors.

I can only assume at this point. In my opinion they will follow suit just like 90s era base and have no demand which will eventually lead to weak sales or no sale value.

thanks for the clarification lol well at least now i know my collection isnt rlly worth much xD alrdy happy with some of my base card like d wade and howard even if the value isnt worth much..cant wait till i have paypal so i can buy cards online

haha hey man money doesnt always mean everything.
i remember my first ever pull and relic was paul pierce.
that to me is my most valuabe card, i wouldnt sell it for $100.
as long as you are happy with your cards its priceless really.

haha but yea i remember when i first established paypal few years back i went nuts buying cards.
