PSA/Collectors Uni acquires Beckett
Discuss!
|
haha. Red Rocket Grading will be the only one left soon
|
Monopoly achieved! Looks like grading prices are only going to go up. What a scam.
|
Competition is good for the hobby.
This is not good for the hobby. I will say, I'm enjoying buying raw and building sets that way far more than I knew I would. |
I love the hobby, hate the industry.
|
Boutique grader number 2!!! This really is bad for grading and the industry. CGC is the only alternative choice now non Collectors company. They do overwhelming number as Pokémon. This is bleak for sports card collectors.
|
Hobby need a savior with a boatload of money and industry smarts to come up with an innovation that PSA has not thought of yet. Competition is dropping by the wayside. Maybe PSA will get so full of itself and make some major mistake (more than what they've done already) to alienate people to just stop grading completely...hmm.
|
Nobody was submitting to Beckett anyways. They bought it for the IP so someone like Fanatics wouldn't. It means very little to how PSA currently operates or will operate in the future. A bonus is that maybe now I can submit cards in person and save on shipping and insurance.

And all of a sudden my Beckett slab values just increased 1,000% :D
Hopefully, there is a program to transfer existing Beckett Graded Slabs to PSA Slabs and vise versa Another great thing from this is the well-deserved DEATH of TAG . . |
Pretty much done with grading anyhow, but interesting for sure. All my old school, back when BGS grading was viewed superior, looking all shiny again tho, amiright!?

I bet the premium will be given to pre collectors stuff. Looks like Collectors power packs through GameStop will start having bgs slabs. |

They would if they're smart. Unlike some panicky knuckleheads out there since the news broke, I'm NOT unloading my collection of Beckett slabs at a 60-75% discount like some Chicken Littles have done We didn't think CU was going to acquire BGS/Beckett either a few months ago, yet here we are. |
Tougher each day it seems to root for anything in the hobby. Every day feels like a bigger scam attempt at our money.
It’s really sad. |

One is SGC's location and the other was Beckett. This was very obvious. I buy cards and not slabs. So if people are truly selling things like a Shaq Dunk'n Go Nuts for 70% off of raw equivalent prices, I will be taking out a second mortgage to buy them all up. |

I have been getting into a habit of listing my raw cards with the extra "Raw & Ungraded!" to explicitly go after the grade chasers. I think we are also going to see a TON of raw cards with "PSA 10? Invest!! 🔥🔥🔥" just like we did during the Covid years As Brad Pitt said in Moneyball, "Adapt or Die" |

Zion magpros for $2 a piece. Best option right now. Spent $500 with Zion today.

They don't do this YET. They could easily kill off both slabs in the future. There may come a time where they offer to convert SGC/BGS slabs into PSA slabs. Unfortunate for Beckett users that dislike PSA. They will now go through what SGC users have been going through recently. Also seems like good news for CGC, one less competitor. Seems pretty clear PSA wants to be the dominant player in an expanded collectibles market. What is next for PSA...stamps/coins? |
Collectors Universe already does coins. They own PCGS, one of the biggest coin grading companies.
|
So PSA now has a grading facility in Plano, TX. Won't take long before Beckett graders are allocated to PSA's demand (mostly TCG).
If it wasn't already before, CGC is the anti-PSA option. Will be interesting to see how much CGC grows from this. |

They don't want people to know that other companies grade just as hard. They will of course review your cards for $25 and slab in lower grades to keep this illusion going. |

Thanks for the correction. :)!
Killing off both brands is possible, but direct crossovers with their "boutique" or "inferior" brands will never happen. But if things slow down or they continue scaling up, they may offer something in the future. |
When will they start the buyback program at BGS to give themselves black labels?
