24-25 The Cup is coming
Looks like 24-25 The Cup is on its way in early December already. Sell sheet does not blow me away with designs, but does make it seem the UD slab is a one year phenomenon: http://www.blowoutcards.net/images/ss/24udthecupHK.pdf
Will retail creep over $1k per box this time? |
The sellsheet says Look for high quality slabbed hits from top rookies, so the slabs should be back.
The design is in line with what we have seen in the past with The Cup. The product is way above my price level, but I wish the best of luck to anyone opening it. |
Missed the slab line, boo.
I don't like how primary the silver coloring is in this, prefer cleaner white in the Cup. Hoping Santa hooks me up with a tin for Christmas nonetheless. I dove in on23-24 earlier this year and had fun, hit a Kyrou shield and lots of fun stuff, and still lost a lot on it. |
The first thing that I always look for is the Limited Logos design and I like this one. Very much reminds me of 2006-07 both with the silver metallic sort of theme and the auto going down the side. Should look even better in person with the foil. Can’t wait to see the checklist

I see it available for preorder in a couple of places, one for the low low price of $8500 per six box case and the other for $4250 for a three boxer. So basically the price at the outset is what 2023-24 climbed too, despite a MUCH shallower rookie class. I get the Celebrini is going nuts, but I think this will be closer to $7000 per six box case, or perhaps even less, by the summer. It won't be as precipitous of a drop as 2023-24 SPA from preorder price, but I just cannot see a universe where it doesn't drop a good amount as the value simply will not be there. Breakers will likely have a tough time too, since PYTs will be too top heavy, Randoms too risky, and hit selects too high.

I dunno stat wise they may be better but you rarely hear names outside Bedard. I think it acc hurt other guys as people ignored anyone but him. Sure Celebrini is the top but I still hear people talking/searching for guys like Smith, Michkov, Hutson etc. Leo broke out this year he wasn’t exactly the most sought after during release. Also to answer the OG question, I think it will be $1000 due to Celebrini and prices upping each year regardless. Next year will be higher it’ll Mckenna right? I know UD gets all the love here but prices been going up year by year if you’re paying attention. People just always convince themselves of a reason “Ovi buybacks!” “ Bedard!” Next year “Mckenna!” |

These prices are stupid |

There are so many 2023-24 players making an actual NHL impact. Yes, I get that they've had a whole other year to do so, but the issue with 24-25 is there is little to no middle ground guys. It's shaping up to be the most feast or famine rookie class since 2019-20. |

Celebrini, Hutson, Nazar, Cutter, Michkov, Stankoven, Dobes, Will Smith That's a pretty good class. The cost of the wax is stupid and gambler dependent, but the class is decent. |
There’s def guys from this class making an impact beyond Celebrini. Keeping up with the Sharks Will Smith has had a part in a lot of these wins even if Celebrini gets the shine
|
Crazy it is starting out at $1400/box.
|
At $1400 a box even Santa may not hook me up.
|
Wait till next year….26-27 not 25-26
|
The same retailer at $8400 sold 23-24 presale at $5700.! Crazy increase YTY for a weaker crop, Celebrini aside
|
This will be an interesting experiment for hockey to push the price to this extreme. Breakers exist in hockey, but not nearly at the same rate as other big 3 sports, will there be enough that will be able to keep this price propped up?
When even I won't open a box of something, you've really gone too far :) |

There were still many who bought boxes and cases and into breaks when it was pushing $450, but it became apparent that the value wasn't there and it dropped. Cup of course is more limited and has lower downside risk, but no way can this be $8500 right out of the gate. I'm saying it again - mark it as closer to $7000 by spring. I wish I could short this! |
UD has no reason to drop the price on their highest-end product, this isn’t just your local LCS gouging you more by the year. What happened to the UD is so affordable crowd that was in the President thread? Lmao
Seriously though, may have to start sitting on the sidelines (as I do) if these prices are becoming too high. It isn’t going away, as o said previously what do you think McKenna’s year will cost? Less than this?….doubt it |

Less than this?….doubt it
This is a good point. It's similar to concert tickets in that artists saw that their tickets would go for 5-10x+ the set price, so eventually they just figured out what they thought was the squeal price and raised it to that. In this case, UD can't be thrilled to have seen 23-24 Cup rise 50% in price within a few months from release. So they figure let's price it with an increase in price already baked in. It will sell at this price, but then it will drop. |
I wonder how briskly the 23-24 are selling at that price too. If breakers are finding success fractionalizing even at that price then I guess it could hold up.
There are an incredibly small number of cards you can pull from the Cup to cover the box price, let alone a case. And for 23-24 a lot of those are gone. |

And for 23-24 a lot of those are gone.
It went from frequent PYTs for 2023-24 the Cup, to team randoms, and then when it rose sky high, to hit selects. The other site we all know has had a team random for 2023-24 Cup at a pretty decent price sitting there for what has to now be nearly a month and it's still barely half filled. And even Hit Selects stopped, at GP and on WhatNot. It's not due to supply - it was just taking eons to fill them, ala what's happening now with the team random on the large site. If UD or breakers think people won't recoil at $1400 per box for the Cup from the get go, they will be in for a rude awakening. I'm not saying it will be crickets from day one - release always causes people to have FOMO and for the whales to spend huge. But when folks realize they are taking a bath in terms of ROI, things will come to a grinding halt and the price will drop, ala 2023-24 SPA. |
December 3rd release date.

Ouch that is insane price even for todays inflation and cup... bleh :eek::confused: |
UD and resellers can ask whatever they want for something, and if it sells they will keep it at that price. If it doesn't, they will lower the price or eat the loss. Basic economics. Be patient and/or wait for others to spend their paychecks, then buy the singles they don't want. The only griping is by those who lack patience or the money to pay to play. They could set the box price at $48,000 each and it wouldn't really affect me. The Cup isn't even my favorite set. Decide how important something is then spend (or don't) appropriately.

Nobody is eating any losses. Unless you mean they’ll just take a little less for it later. |
really like the look of Lavish (that Mario is sick!) and the 03-04 Black. Imagine pulling that Gretzky
I would LOVE to tear a box of this sometime but those prices are crazy |
