Which Etopps should I keep?

So I have a little over 800 Etopps in port. With the recent news of the closing of the warehouse, i need to make a decision on what to take in hand and what i should take credit on. I haven't listed the no brainers or the ones I'd like to keep. What are everyone's thoughts on any listed below that I should consider keeping? I also will start another thread(s) on a few cards I have amassed a good percentage of the print run and will ask advice on those as it'd be a shame to let them go back to Topps.

This is a mix of sports. I do not have unlimited funds to take them all for PC.

Sell them all for credit.

I only see a few I would bother with. Take the rest in credit and try to dig out with some wax that you might get some margin on.

Which one's do you think I should consider? The easy ones I didn't list in this post so any I take will just be the $1.10 delivery. I just don't want to miss someone that's blatantly obvious. Thinking about the 2002 Carr, 2005 Chipper Jones (don't want all 4 but that's my only option), 2007 Gore, and the 2004 Piazza.

pfb11 08-31-2025 11:28 PM

it's a shame they didn't leave trading up for a few days after the announcement, isn't it

Timewarp 09-01-2025 12:59 AM

I am not really interested in Topps store credit, so I'm taking most of mine. What happens after that I don't know, but my son says he'll take them on so that could be fun.

coolstar 09-01-2025 01:12 AM

If it is me, I probably won't keep any of them except the 2002 Brian Urlacher & 2005 Kyle Orton, but that is only because I was from Chicago.

I also have a list myself, all football RCs. Maybe you can give me some advise too.

I am considering the Urlacher. He was such a legend.

mjohnatgt 09-01-2025 08:46 AM

You can look them up on COMC and see if there is any interest or sales there.

Example: The 2002 Urlacher sold for $20 in 2020.
Chipper currently has one listed at $10, but has sold for up to $15 before.
Gore's are currently listed for $7-10, but have sold for up to $10 before.
I would recommend keeping the Nowitzki as well.

I’ve considered taking the whole port but currently deciding to just take the ones that are more collected. The shutdown was tough and it blindsided me. Not sure 800+ cards sitting on the shelf will make it better. Probably the opposite.

Thanks! I didn’t know that existed. I’ll check it out. These listed above are on my short list to save along with a few more. I am concerned on what they are going to be shipped in. Unslabbed concerns me a little bit. I do have some cards from another port coming so hoping they arrive in good condition.

base set 09-01-2025 09:08 AM

I looked up Brennan Boesch because his Update RC has probably the best image of the Ernie Harwell memorial patch worn in 2010, and have been meaning to buy a copy. Haven’t heard his name in a long time.

Result on COMC: someone “cornered” his eTopps card, buying up all 23 copies available, 4 years ago. Since then one copy has been sold. So, yeah, any store credit offered is a win on that one as the other 22 copies are very unlikely to ever leave Cemetery of Many Cards.

TeeBee12 09-01-2025 10:21 AM

A long list and many names I dont recognize and/or if its their rookie year. With that being said, Id keep any HOF from early ‘01, ‘02, ‘03 releases. I’d also keep any decent rookies.

eTopps doesnt and never got the respect it shoulda. It was definitely ahead of its time. The common misconception is that the (sometimes) high print runs but do not truly represent the amount of cards available bc they have been stuck in the eTopps warehouse. Supposedly, the cost to extract and have them shipped was cost prohibitive on a per card basis.

Considering most have been forgotten about and/or exchanged for credit, this could work to your favor years down the road if you just pulled all of them and cost avg’d the shipping. (have not read what they currently cost to ship or exchange value).

There are randars that already command much more than one would think. I think the ‘01 Fred Taylor card maybe? Its been a while. But later on down the road, the obscure ones could very well end up being the money cards.

As far as quality and design, some of the best looking rookie cards belong to the eTopps brand and have increased and continued to increase as the staleness wore off and nostaglia of the brand is hitting the 25 year mark.

If you asked me, the best looking, bang-for-your-buck & ironically color-matched rookies of Freddie Freeman, Mike Trout, Aroldis Chapman, Kevin Garnett, Rob Gronkowski and so forth. Lebrons is fairly solid considering you get a head shot, action shot & refractor for dimes on the dollar compared to the cost of suited or draft day photo shoot paper rookies. Verlanders is another solid one. I would take a look at your list and see if any of yours fit these characteristics. And if the general consensus is that everyone else is taking the credit, it might push me more to saying “eff it” and pulling all of them. Zig when they are zagging. Now, im not saying go max out your credit card, but if you have the extra coin, Id at least contemplate it if there were just a few that you were already considering.

But anything HOF basketball id strongly consider. Non-rookies of guys like Kobe, Shaq, Carmelo, Yao, Lebron, Dirk, Garnett all sell very weil even in PSA 8/9s. Same goes with other notable names like Jeter, Brady, Emmitt, etc.

Good luck in whatever route ya go.

EDIT: Keep in mind, you would also be getting 50+ magnetic one-touches in fairly decent shape. Not a reason in itself to pull them all, but could be a worst-case-scenario-cherry-on-top type of info to sway your neigh or yea decision.

I don't believe they promise this in the recent update unless there is a newer one.

Very well could be. Apologize if so. I never had an eTopps account. Usually bought off ebay or comc “raw” and 99% of the time they still came in them.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I 100% agree. In hand the cards are magnificent. I’m not sure I’ve said it on here but the way Topps is going about this has me worried. I’m not sure what I’ll exactly get when my orders arrive. There is another post on here that when they made the announcement the first delivery’s were all just thrown in a plastic baggy and no cases/protection. That led to most of the cards damaged. People weren’t happy and Topps responded saying they will refund shipping, replace the cards, and ship cards in the future with at least a top loader. Top loader is better, but still not the hard psa/onetouch-like case.

ewokpelts 09-02-2025 06:41 PM

This is mostly garbage. Take the topps money and buy wax to flip

ewokpelts 09-02-2025 06:45 PM

Also, why a “new account” and separate thread?

New account because this is the first time I've ever been on the site. I was brought here when I googled etopps shutdown and clicked on the "Etopps, the final dagger" thread. I thought I'd reach out to others to help me navigate me through this mess and gain any knowledge I could about the situation. I've learned a lot so far.

Big35Hurt 09-03-2025 06:40 AM

Isn't the cost of shipping on the high side? Thought that was mentioned in a different eTopps thread. Factor that in when deciding what you really want to have sent to you. Like others said, it seems like turning them in for credit might be the best option for most of the cards.

It’s higher than it should be considering you are not getting the one touches or holograms.

That's what I recall reading, and it seemed like there wasn't any kind of combined shipping discount.

I’m ok with no one touches, but I would like the holograms to put in one touches later.

Agree.. That's about it.
Not much there really.
I am super glad when eTopps first announced years ago they were stopping the program I used my accumulated points to have most of the ones in my port shipped to me.
I then sold off the rest of my 50 cards or so in my port.

I probably have 100 eTopps in hand now
