YOUR favorite song about a city(old person edition)!
Only looking for the one you like best out of the options given! :coffee:
|
London Calling for sure, but there's 'Hoboken' by Operation Ivy.
Or 'City Baby Attacked By Rats' or 'City Babies Revenge' by GBH. Fun fact, I was in a band that opened for GBH in 1990. |
Any song about Atlanta by OutKast like Elevators, B.O.B., Hotlanta and of course ATLiens. Welcome to Atlanta is just ok by Luda and company.
For the state of Georgia, the only one that matters is Ray Charles Georgia on My Mind. Don’t like any listed. :)! |
Can't embed.
Click. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZzgAjjuqZM |
But you can.
It's decidedly simple. If you know how to embed it, but didn't want to for some reason, here's how to do it for anyone who doesn't know how but would like to. Paste the code of the YouTube video, in this case, "oZzgAjjuqZM" in between this: code here[/YouTube Note: You need to add one of these brackets "]" right after the second "YouTube" at the end for it to work. I left the final bracket off to show the code instead of the embedded video. This is what it (mostly) will look like: oZzgAjjuqZM Get rid of the space between the second YouTube and the final bracket. I only made that space so the code would show instead of the embedded video. It is an awesome power. Use it wisely. |
All Roads Lead to Lawndale and Lawndale Leads to All Roads
I lived in Lawndale, CA from the ages 4-7 (which includes the time when the original Star Wars was new at the movies) and again from 15-17 in the 1980's.
In between, I lived in a small town in New Mexico, so there was some culture shock when I first got to New Mexico and again 8 years later, when I came back to Southern California, mainly due to the massive shifts in population (and culture itself) between the two places. Danny Phillips (now known as Danny Dean) is a cool dude who was in the punk band ANTI before forming the mellower, but still rockin' group called Easter. One night, during my teen years there, we went to an Easter concert and they had the famed Mike Ness of Social Distortion playing bass for them. Ness made absolutely no eye contact with anyone. It was awesome. Among the songs they played was this one, a tribute to the town which still holds a meaningful place in my heart even though I now live an hour away from there. It was a great night although we probably shouldn't have invited the drummer to get ripped with us in between sets. |

Disco Inferno - LA
|
I loved visiting the actual Funkytown from the song, but lost my wallet on Electric Avenue. I have to walk back down there to look for it. I'm thinking it was near the Mattel building I dropped it. There wasn't anything in it. (The wallet, not the building.)
City of New Orleans....Arlo Guthrie
The City of New Orleans is about a train. My pick would be San Francisco by Scott McKenzie 1967. The line "Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Yor Hair" Was a hippie anthem in its day. |

You’re wrong as usual I still like you |
Battle of New Orleans by Johnny Horton
|
This is the quintessential old school song about Washington's cities.
Lyrically and city accuracy, this one would be my fave but too modern for this list. |
