2028 Finalists

The Dealer Packet lists Detroit and Atlanta as the finalists for 2028. Atlanta makes a lot of sense for those flying in from around the country/world. Hartsfield has flights from six of the world's seven continents. I think I-95 makes it just as easy to make the trip as I-94 does for the Cleveland/Chicago sites.

Detroit falls in that I-94 artery and will keep a lot of the Midwest participation. It's interesting that Detroit is bidding for as they started running a Detroit version of the CSS two years ago. I believe the Schwartz family is regaining control of it in the coming years so I suspect they'll own it by then.

It's Detroit's less welcoming reputation as a city vs the heat of Atlanta. I love it in the MW but IMO it's time to take it to the people living in the SE. Reading through other parts of the packet, there's another good thing that pops out about Atlanta... Not being forced to pay union workers to do things you can do/hire your own labor!

JustinVerlander07 06-06-2025 08:46 AM

The area of Detroit it would be in is totally safe, and if you didn't want to be in a hotel downtown there are plenty of surrounding cities/townships that are nice.

It's gonna be in Detroit, nobody wants to fly in/out of Atlanta.

Dacubs2 06-06-2025 08:48 AM

I would vote for Detroit (If I had a vote)...I've only flown into Atlanta's airport twice and did not like it

Where is 2026 at?

Hockey24xx 06-06-2025 08:55 AM

They are both about equal driving distance for me and I am forced to drive due to the amount of product I haul. My vote would be Detroit for the milder weather during that time of year. Not too concerned about the area. Survived Atlantic City twice with zero issues, Detroit will be a walk in the park.

Rosemont/Chicago

Bring it to Vegas or Salt Lake City!

I may be biased but Detroit all day. Disclaimer: I am from Michigan and now reside in Florida. Even with Atlanta being significantly closer, give me Detroit.

Also, don’t listen to anyone who says Detroit is absurdly dangerous. Are there less desirable areas than others? Absolutely. The same can be said for almost any major city. If you haven’t been to Detroit in the last 5-6 years, you’ll be impressed, imo - especially based on old reputation.

Atlanta is garbage

Sign me up for Detroit

I know that sounds weird

Once again, no options west of the Mississippi......
Once again, no options west of the Mississippi......
I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that a majority of the population of the US is East of the Mississippi. Also, many of the places in the West big enough for a national are expensive. Not to mention it would be far for many of the distributors & big buyers on the East coast.
Chicago is really the best spot. It's centrally located & even though it's in a big city, the prices aren't crazy expensive. Plus, it's a little outside of Chicago, so it's not as hard to get to. It's a big space, with an airport close by, tons of hotels/restaurants to choose from & you can easily hope on the train to go downtown or catch a game.

It really is a matter of cost and logistics.

NSCC requires a certain amount of space and a specific range of dates.

A majority of convention centers fitting the timeline & space requirements are either very expensive or require a commitment for too long or scheduling too far out.

I'm familiar with both the Detroit & Atlanta options and believe both offer many positives. It will be interesting to see how the NSCC vote goes for 2028 between the two.

Rather see it in Detroit than Atlanta based upon my bias that I can drive to Detroit more reasonably.

jlzinck 06-07-2025 10:13 AM

Went to Atlanta for the 99 show. Met online friends there. Had more fun with them than the show.

Only take away from the show that I remember.
Bill Russell's 1st public signing. It was $500 for his sig, to benefit his daughter's charitable organization. One woman next to him on his way out asking his to sign her basketball. He answered with his famous cackle that he couldn't.

Wilt Chamberlain left the signing on the back of a golf cart. He looked like he had been up for 10 days. He passed only a few months later from heart issues.

The interactions with the online friends was awesome. We played poker with cards as currency, we brought each other cards of our PC teams and gave them to each other.

Still friends with all those people.

So wait… the show isn’t on 8 mile? That’s lame

Cleveland tried to get it on East 99th for Bone Thugs but didn’t happen

Stupid suburbs of the actual City

People keep saying how 1999 was a horrible show and of course it was we were still recovering from the junk wax era bust. Hobby is in a much better place than it was 27 yrs ago. IMO Atlanta offers a lot more of a family experience with the different attractions the wife and kids can go to while dad is at The National.

Surprised that Vegas with it's growth in the sports world in the last decade has not been considered. Easy city to drive or fly to and would probably be the best location in the west to hold it. Why not even hold it once there just as a test year to see how it goes?

It's really pretty simple. The major dealers are all on the East Coast. This is why it never crosses the Mississippi. But additionally I don't see Vegas ever happening because gambling takes away from the money people can spend on cards.

People don’t want to go to Vegas to buy cards

This has been discussed to death

You go to Vegas to spend money on everything else

Vegas is for corporate events that are paid for. Not for the randoms

Perhaps...

But it SHOULD happen once every 4-5 years.....the National SHOULD be rotated around the different regions of the country...
