We have officially jumped the shark...

Big35Hurt 02-12-2025 04:12 PM

Hey if it means more card shops, I am all for it!

sauceboy 02-12-2025 04:15 PM

Wow. I went to middle school and high school with the dude who founded CardVault. He's gotta be on cloud nine.

YouTheManNick 02-12-2025 04:18 PM

Dang. By "Tom" I was hoping they meant Tom from Myspace.

It's about time he made a comeback.

I'm surprised Brady is willing to risk his reputation getting into the card/memorabilia business. We all know how shady/dishonest people can be in this "hobby" but have no fear, with Tom Brady's endorsement I'm sure everything will be on the up and up.

Apart from the shady side of things I think the market will continue to correct for the next few years. Card shops and businesses that popped up during the Covid boom will struggle to continue to rope in unsuspecting victims and convince them to pay for overpriced/watered down products. Of course, if Brady simply sold the rights to use his name and didn't actually invest any money then I'm sure he'll be fine......apart from any blowback he gets if something dishonest happens "under his watch".

He's the football GOAT and a lot of people love him.

There's "shady" and "dishonest" people everywhere, not just within the hobby but outside of it (I'm sure there's a ton within the world of football alone).

Honestly, he's already been "embarrassed" enough by his relationships (ex-wife, ex-coach)/Netflix roast/etc and likely doesn't give two shits what you/I/most "average" people think anyway.

You say "risk" and he says "cha-ching".

He had no qualms pumping crypto.

They need to rebrand IMO. I assumed it was another doofy vault service and not a regular store/dealer.

Dishonesty has nothing to do with what line of work you are in. There are good people selling used cars, and there are bad people wearing robes pretending to be priests. There are good people behind bars, and bad people behind the badge. All that to say people are people, and it has nothing to do with the line of work they are in. If Tom Brady is an ethical person, he will run an ethical card shop if its in his control. If Tom Brady is a shady dude that is attempting to rip people off, that means he has most likely always been like that and just hid it well.

I think it will be fine and I'm happy to see the hobby continuing to expand.

99 out of 100 people don’t know who any of these shady people are. Come on now

Hell they might be collectors and still don’t know. I barely know as an old man. I didnt know who Backyard Breakers or whatever were until you all told me

My kid probably knew. He has no money

Brady couldn’t care less

KhalDrogo 02-12-2025 07:38 PM

Is it confirmed he actually invested his own money?

You can definitely be an "owner" today without putting anything down.

Athletes do it a lot when they open restaurants in their name. They lend their NIL and get a % of equity into the restaurant or a % of the proceeds.

Article says he “acquired a 50% stake.”

I’m too lazy to figure out what the bizness model for this is. Anyone got the tl;dr version? Is it different than “LCS” ?

How he acquired his equity is irrelevant. Lots of joint owners acquire equity via offering labor, expertise, NIL, and many other ways besides just monetary investment. That said, there is no indication he didn't pay for his stake, nor does it matter.

I also believe the owner of CardVault previously said Robert Kraft has a stake in the store at Foxborough.

I don't know -- I'm thinking Brady himself might be one of those shady card dealers: https://www.cllct.com/sports-collectibles/autographs/tom-brady-wont-be-in-hall-of-fame-until-2028-but-he-s-already-using-inscription
