Should Disney make an R rated Star Wars movie?

With the success of Deadpool and Wolverine should Disney try an R rated Star Wars movie?
With the success of Deadpool and Wolverine should Disney try and R rate Star Wars movie?
I'd say no. The original source material of Deadpool (and Wolverine, often) was pretty dark/offensive so an R-rated movie isn't terribly off brand.

Star Wars has never been that in any incarnation I can recall (excluding way off-canon books or whatever).

I feel like Star Wars is at it's best when it is basic ingredients: Princesses, Farm Boys, Wizards, Pirates, Magic, Light Swords, Space Ships, Robots and swashbuckling action with heart.

Give me that? I'm good.

You would.

majestik101 10-24-2024 12:10 PM

No. Disney would never allow it. Besides, that franchise has been beaten to death and wussified.

An R-rated Star Trek movie however? That would be fantastic.

JeremyNick 10-24-2024 12:24 PM

Sure, why not.

Siberian13 10-24-2024 12:43 PM

It doesn’t matter what they are rated. They’ll still suck because it’s Disney.

I vote for stop making Star Wars movies altogether. I know the franchise is wildly popular but for me at least it ran its course long ago. I love the first two films though.

smanzari 10-24-2024 12:59 PM

I don't think it will ever happened, as they (REALLY) failed with an "R-Rated Show" in Acolyte

Topless Ewoks? Hairy would be down with that.

As long as they are wider than they are tall, then yes.

An R-Rated movie where a Princess who has been kept in check and objectified goes on a killing spree with her best animal friends would be awesome

Wasn't there rumors at one point that Quentin Tarantino was considering an R rated Star Trek for his final movie?

Disney using the scariest word on earth would be hilarious.

They have only made 1 solid Star Wars movie since the 80s. So I could care less if they made an R rated movie but how would you propose they do so?

If they made it some action movie with 1 liners like Deadpool/Wolverine it would come offf corny like Solo.

If they did a bunch of Light saber scenes..none of those have ever had blood even when people were cut in half like Darth Maul. So no sense to add that now.

Only way I could see an R rated Star Wars movie working would be a Bounty Hunters movie (without Boba Fett because they already ruined him).. Guys like Dengar Bossk, Zuckuss, and the other guys from Empire Strikes Back who they haven't ruined with spin off shows. Showing them go to different planets and kill huge monsters/capture people at any means then go to Jabbas palace to collect their reward and watch the Big lady with 6 boobs dance around nude.

If Disney decided to dip into legends and bring forward the Yuuzhan Vong from the New Jedi Order series they could easily hit an R. The body horror alone would get the film to that rating.

The Legacy of the Force series gets some real dystopian politics mixed with war crimes along side the usual Jedi, space battles, etc.

There's nothing to prevent Disney from making Star Wars movies under the Legends (formerly Expanded Universe) banner. Aside that it would make their current efforts laughable since there's so much rich content they could directly mine without getting film makers involved who can't properly plan a 3-movie trilogy.

C-3PO would certainly be up for it.

Absolutely not.

They can do whatever they want. I’ve moved on from SW. It’s dead to me and nothing is bringing it back.
