** The Offical 2024 Playoffs Thread**

I didn't see a thread for the playoffs, they kind of start today.

Mets vs Braves 1:10 and 4:40 today

Who is winning it all?

I'm rooting for KC and Detroit 1st round as I don't see the Yankees beating the Orioles or Astros to get to the World Series; especially when they have home field advantage.

You just don't want to hear it from your work friends and cornhole.

Might as well have called it the Offecal thread.

Who do the Red Sox play?

Hollywood42 09-30-2024 08:59 AM

The AL feels as wide open as ever with IMO without a team that feels like a true complete team with few weaknesses. Really could be a year where whoever gets hot makes it all the way to the WS. Phillies seem like the favorites in the NL to me, but I love the Padres and will be rooting for them

My picks:

WC
Astros over Tigers
Orioles over Royals
Brewers over Mets
Padres over Braves

DS
Astros over Guardians
Yankees over Orioles
Phillies over Brewers
Padres over Dodgers

LCS
Astros over Yankees
Padres over Phillies

WS
Padres over Astros

I think the Orioles bats have gotten healthy at the right time. Our pitching will still be a question mark but I am optimistic it can be good enough to keep games close for our bats to pull through.

My prediction is that Tony Taters comes up big and earns a new nickname… Tony Octobre!

I can't believe it's now been 20 years since Boston broke the curse....

Scottish Punk 09-30-2024 09:24 AM

Go Tigers. Everything here on out is gravy. Getting all these young players a taste of the post season bodes well for our future.

BTW, I copied the title from the 2023 thread.

Whenever they inevitably meet, the LA/SD series will be can't-miss television

At least they went on to win 3 more. I am a Rangers fan in hockey and after they broke the 1940 curse in 1993/94 I didn’t think they wouldn’t win it again going into the 2024/25 season.

What a ratings nightmare this scenario would be for MLB.

I don't hate the Padres but don't have much of a desire to see them play.
I have the same opinion about the Astros as most around here. I prefer if they weren't in the post season at all and the sooner they are gone the better.

I'm not saying they are going anywhere, but the Tigers have gotten hot at the right time. That could be interesting.

Trust me there are more people rooting for the Tigers than you think.

I don't doubt that at all.

JRX 09-30-2024 10:29 AM

So what prevents the Mets and Braves from each forfeiting a game?

Boo 09-30-2024 10:35 AM
So what prevents the Mets and Braves from each forfeiting a game?
Optics. They won't forfeit but I could see some giving up without giving up moves being made. They are rivals though so I would think that goes into trying to win both as well.

sportzluvr1 09-30-2024 10:36 AM

Judge-Ohtani WS?!

I expect the Braves to put everything into game 1 in order to save Sale for the playoffs. Win game 1 and throw Homes and Chavez game 2 as a kind gesture.

From a pure strategy standpoint, they should both forfeit a game. Why even bother using up your pitching as you have to play tomorrow. Whoever wins game 1 should use a pos player to start game 2.

Ephland 09-30-2024 10:48 AM

I assume that people are using "forfeit" but what they mean is "tank."
