Big PENIX Energy - The Thread Official.

Who had Penix going in the Top 10?

Congrats Falcons!

BraveAtlanta 04-25-2024 08:54 PM

Falcons gonna falcon. Someone make this pick make sense.

xbignick 04-25-2024 09:01 PM

Has Penix been cleared from all of his injury history?

asujbl 04-25-2024 09:04 PM

Penix is a boomer. Blazed hates him

BraveAtlanta 04-25-2024 09:16 PM

Odunze would’ve been a better pick. Give Kirk another weapon. They just gave him $145 for 4 years! Penix will almost be 30 when Kirk’s contract is over. Maybe they just an insurance policy….maybe Arthur Blank just wants to make their fan base happy with another Vick type player.

This is why I gave up on atl years ago. It is the WORST ran franchise in the nfl.

sportzluvr1 04-25-2024 09:17 PM

I believe this will be looked back upon as the worst pick of this years 1st round.

The Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, Washington Commoders are in the running.

The biggest question: are you collecting him?

Siberian13 04-26-2024 03:34 AM

Penix is the next Mahomes.

oldgoldy97 04-26-2024 04:00 AM

Cousins being upset.

He should be thankful they didn’t lose anything, yet, because of tampering, shut his pie hole and find a mediocre pizza chain to spokesman for in Hotlanta.

I haven’t fallen in love with any of the 1st round guys.

Floridacardguy 04-26-2024 06:02 AM

Maybe if the Falcons are worried about their 1st round pick next year being stripped this makes sense but even then this pick doesn’t really make sense, because why not grab JJ who’s much younger and let him sit and learn and who would be much younger in say three years.

If Cousins stays healthy and plays well, he may have three seasons as starter. Penix would be almost 30. This is sort of like Jorhsn Love or Aaron Rodgers situation I guess where the young guy sits behind the entrenched starter but this guy ain’t young

This almost assures Cousins will be cut/traded after two years of his current contract. Penix will be 26 when he starts in 2026.

If that's the case, Cousins must be pissed. He's getting paid well, so there's that, but he may have elected to stay put had he known he was simply going to be a hired gun for a year or two trying to win it all right now. The falcons will easily take down that division, so maybe they can win now, but how do you not tell Cousins ahead of time this is the gameplan? Pretty crappy

It was always a two year deal NN.

I heard some speculate that, but still seems silly. Let's say they lose their 1st pick next year. If they expect to be good they won't have a high pick the year after either, but if they're good they didn't need a qb and if they stink they'll be able to draft a qb then vs having a 27yr old rookie.

foleylion08 04-26-2024 09:10 AM

The thing is, they could've traded down probably to the 20s to get Penix. I'd like to know where he fell on other boards.

Exactly. Just seems they couldn't added a talented Edge rusher and picked up Penix late in the first round by trading up. He was considered a late first round pick-up at best

dkcardman 04-26-2024 09:51 AM

This pick is in the argument for most non-sensical picks ever.
1. You just place 180m contract to a player with 100m guaranteed.
2. Penic makes the team no better. Period. Does it make it any deeper with TH on the bench? Not really.
3. Taking a QB that hig you want him playing soon, while he is cheap! After 4 years, salary to keep him can go way up. I don't think MPJ is going to cut them a contract break because they chose to sit him 3-4 years.
4. Absolute top talent at other positions were available that they needed immediately. Sooo stupid.

if I am Kirk, I am pissed. If I am a player on the team, I am pissed. If I am MPJ, I am pissed I don't have a shot to play, especially when I'm almost 24 already. If I was a Falcons fan, I'd have sharpened my pitchfork last night.

Whoever made that pick has earned themselves a firing.

Scottish Punk 04-26-2024 09:52 AM
It was always a two year deal NN.
Exactly, Cousins is a smart guy and very business savy. Dead cap for the 4 years on his deal is 90 million, 65, 25, 12.5. There is an official off ramp after year 3. Cousins year three is 57 million cap or the 25 million dead if cut. I think that is right if I am reading it correctly. If the Falcons feel Penix is ready, I don't see Cousins being on the roster in year three. Cousins knows full well that non guaranteed money on the back end of NFL contracts is fake numbers.

kluke84 04-26-2024 10:02 AM

I like Penix but this was a horrible pick where they did it. Could have traded down and making Kirk a stop gap before his first snap.

Truly a mind-boggling pick.

asujbl 04-26-2024 10:10 AM

Worst pick in history

Has nothing to do with the player

But as addressed above the Falcons should trying to win now after giving Kirk 100/2 (that’s what it really is obviously)

Best Defensive Player would have been huge

Now you have an old man with no knees sitting behind another old man

It’s mind bottling

There have been worse player picks, obviously, but not situationally this bad
