2024 Topps Midnight UFC
New product drop from Topps with pre-sales on April 19. Looks like similar to baseball's Inception product.

3 autos and a non-established brand? The price on this will show whether everyone praying UFC went back to Topps was right or not lol

Eh? It's pretty much Topps Chrome Black. |
Eh?
It's pretty much Topps Chrome Black.
It says it's black Chrome technology but looks nothing like other Chrome Black sets. Chrome Black is all base cards and autos. This seems like it's all insert type cards. Seems like if Chrome Black and Cosmic had a baby |
Available for pre-order on Topps UK for £285. Probably $275 US.
|
$299/box US

Seems very steep. $100 per auto... sigh
|
plus tax
|
Yes, I like the look of the cards but an easy pass at this price. Premium top tier name autos from Immaculate are not sniffing $300 for the most part, so very hard to imagine any sort of value here.

Yeah I was thinking more like 1800 a case, 2400 tops. |
There's also not enough big names currently selling for enough that even if you get 2/3 good to ok names unless they are low numbered it'll likely be a loss. Plus we know if you're lucky ONE of three autos will be good, if they can put an auto in every Chrome box and a lot still lose money it says it all right there.

That price point for three sticker autographs with UFC name awareness at, what feels like, an all time low. God I miss the day of $200 UFC Knockout. The first two products in that line were two of my favorite products ever.

Knockout and Bloodlines were some good stuff. This reminds me of Top of the Class a bit. 3 hits and should be very inexpensive. Unfortunately pricing makes UFC impossible to open. |

Ah yes, Bloodlines as well, amazing product. Hit a Nick Diaz ruby auto when it released and sold it for almost $1k. It was the biggest sale I ever had at that point. Also found two Khabib rookies a few years back when I was going through my boxes of bulk and got them both graded. Long story short, current UFC products stink and the UFC just hasn't done a good job of promoting names, just the brand. |

UFC is HUGE worldwide, but most people couldn’t name the champs in each weight class. There are some phenomenal personalities and talented fighters that people have never heard of, that should sell for far more than they do. |

It is, but not quite as big as they think it is. I read something the other day and (I can't remember who it was now) and a fighter claimed it was 'bigger than soccer' - and he meant it too. |

Sample cards from the Industry Conference:

Yuck.
Not a fan. People would def crap all over this design if it was Panini, reminds me of a Skybox insert set that didn't make it past the cutting room floor. I even hate how "MIDNIGHT" is so prominent and two fonts bigger than fighter names lol easy pass even if there's retail unless for some reason it's on-card autos. I don't have an issue introducing new sets over time but Chrome was a good start, why not something like Finest next or even though it would be reverse order just flagship UFC with a cheap price point to reintroduce people to Topps UFC. Then you can do a new set like this or Chrome Black or something, then some higher end, the market isn't even really there imo to sustain new UFC sets even if they are good, might as well stick to the established names. |
It looks horrible.
Also, absolutely nobody at all wants a Finest set. Black is stupid too. Here's a really crazy idea - pay for good designers and make Chrome the best it can possibly be. UFC doesn't need all of Topps Baseball sets, nor does Soccer come to that - I wish they would back off and stop diluting the markets with shite. |
Have seen 6 boxes opened. This stuff is brutal at the current price.
Yes, the cards look nice. But average boxes is 3 meh autos. This should be $200ish a box not $320. At $200 it would still be tough but at least its somewhat reasonable. |

For real. I've just been finding my niche and sticking to it. |

I only saw one box myself but as I predicted Topps gave one pretty good auto (Pantoja) and two whatever autos (Mir and Zahabi). Not only do two of your autos need to be good in this they need to be top tier names not just champions to come out on top, basically impossible |
Even back in the day we bitched when hobby boxes were $100. But the cards were also selling for much less.
Plus... UFC cards have always been 80-99% crap and 1-5% awesome. Time is the ultimate factor for value... but hype and chasing the prospect has tainted the present. |
