They also just made a change to make all items eligible for returns for no reason, giving sellers no choice (they have Nominal / Non-Nominal return process, so some of the time the sellers don't even get their item back from returns on low-end items)

You had poor experiences as seller?

I have only had one return (as a buyer) and it went fine. Even if is doesn't "matter", a reason for the return must be provided/selected. Photos must also be included after a return has been requested. Buyers have 72 hours to request return and 24 hours to provide supporting photos.

I am not familiar with the non-nominal process. The rules do not say if the seller will potentially lose the sale amount and the item. Someone with more experience will need to chime in to clarify that.

I sold and bought on Mercari. The entire system needs scrapped and rebuilt from the top down. So many terrible sellers on their. On ESE, the tracking marks items as delivered and you know how they don't arrive 100% the day they are marked. Well when this happens and you receive the item on day 4, the transaction has already been automatically rated and you as a buyer have no recourse. If the item doesn't show up at all then you are #@#@#@#@ out of luck. All their support is done using AI. I even went to the BBB to report them and they used an AI scripted response for the BBB also. Total clown show, you want more info look at the reddit. Sellers and buyers are not protected.

rynobot 03-27-2024 11:38 AM

What's even crazier is that the sellers on Reddit want the 3 day rating period reduced to 1 day.

I had over a $10 balance I was saving for a rainy day or an eventual cash out (was free over $10). Would now have to pay $2 for cash out. Should have let existing balances grandfather in. I bought an item instead, though, and it didn't charge a buyer fee, so idk what happened there. Guess it was an existing listing and the seller gets charged. All very unfair and confusing. The fee changes help the seller but may discourage buyers.

Unrelated, but you also can't leave negative feedback on a seller that never ships. The order just gets cancelled if you request it after a certain amount of time. I think it does give a high cancellation warning before you buy. Dumb system though.

I pray for whoever sells on Mercari, Jesus take the wheel...

Mercari doesn't follow through with insurance claims either so if something happens to your item in transit you are also not covered.

I use Mercari, although mostly for buying. I've found it to be the most reliable online marketplace outside of eBay - definitely better than OfferUp and about a million times better than the cesspool that is Facebook Marketplace.

I bought a ton of singles off of Mercari. I would say 99% of the purchases have been great. Lots of the cards I have purchased from Mercari have come back as PSA 10. There are also tons of steals to be had. I just purchased 12 Donruss football blasters that came out to be about $20 per blaster. Tons of unopened product for way below retail.

I have also sold a bunch of slabs on Mercari. So far I have not had any issues at all with buyers. Mercari has been a pleasant experience so far in my time using that app.

Only 2 items I sold on mercurial buyers tried to scam me because I was "new"

longhornjunkie 03-30-2024 03:09 PM

Just got a notice that the direct deposit cash-out fee is waived until April 3 or something. Guess they realized their new policy was BS. Better cash out now if you want to.

I opened a store with just a tiny bit of inventory. If it does work out, that is fine. I do not understand exactly how getting paid and everything works, but I will just add some stuff and see what happens. I did have two cards sell and ship already, so that is a plus.

TXRunner 04-04-2024 11:02 AM

On the buyer side of things with Mercari, they have essentially just pushed their audience back to ebay or another selling platform. They are now charging the buyer a processing fee on top of a payment fee. So something that costs $50 with $7 shipping now costs about $70+. No thanks. I was looking to buy some more singles last night to grade, or buy some good deals on sealed product, and those extra fees now make it not worth it anymore.

Cactuspies 04-04-2024 11:54 AM

$2 to cash out isn't horrible with the sales fee gone. just make a few sales and cash out and you are still ahead or just roll those sales into other purchases.

I've had good success buying and selling. some dead beats as sellers and buyers, but overall can't complain.

sellers don't get paid until the item is delivered and buyer leaves feedback or just lets the 3 days pass.

Sellers have to print label and ship 1st (also mark the sale as shipped). Labels if you go through Mercari are post dated 3 days, so your PO might hold items and mercari starts to bug you to ship.

The app is much better to use than the web, but each has their own plus and minus.

I was worried about this but haven't attempted to buy any more items. Definitely discouraging.

Somewhere in the initial communication they basically asked sellers to reprice items accordingly. I seem to only be able to change 10 items per day. Maybe that's because I use "promote" instead of revising the listings.

I'll leave the stuff I have through the end of summer, but don't think I'll be putting new items up next football season.

Cactuspies 04-04-2024 03:09 PM

you can only promote 10 items/day and that doesn't lower it indefinitely, just temporary I believe (good to try and send if you see watchers). you would have to go in and edit each listing for permanent pricing. On the app it goes pretty fast, only drawback is when you do one then you are back at the top of your list and the sort is pretty bad (new, old, highest, lowest or by a title search.)

From what I can tell, the "offer" is temporary just to those buyers but the "promote to all" is a permanent lowering plus higher visibility in the search. My item prices have gone down and stayed at the lower price. I guess with a revision, you don't necessarily get the increased visibility?

Yea, that is not happening. I can't believe Mercari would think seller's would actually do that. Sellers are now seeing it as a chance for larger margins. I have tried to make some offers that would essentially be competitive but at the same time take into account the extra fees buyers now have to pay. No one is budging on price.
