22-23 The CUP release date?

Any word on this product? I have not heard anything and makes me wonder if it will be produced? If it does, when can we expect it?

Philobut 02-16-2024 02:25 PM

Probably dec. 2024. Would be surprised if it's before that.

kingb22 02-16-2024 02:43 PM

I wonder what's considered the worst Cup release year? It seems like 22-23 would have a chance at that honor unless Beniers, Wright etc al get it going before release

Slafkovsky is doing well on the ice at the moment, but he is good enough to carry the product by himself!

Unless you're joking he means 22-23 which still hasn't released yet.

Should be soon, OPC Platinum 22-23 is next I believe (Genius move right before S2 lol) and then that may be up although I could be wrong. Definitely before summer

ultimate and premier will be before Cup as well. Probably a few others as well.

..........

Just saw on a reputable site that it is going to be released on June 15th, 2029.

Pre-orders start in July 2024 around midnight of the 12th.

Bank on it.

:)!

I'm not joking.. Cup 21-22 released last december. They are 2 years late on this product since COVID and I doubt they plan on make it faster.

Not a hockey expert but 2012-13 wasn’t a great succes.

Charging more than $500 for this crop in The Cup 2 years later is fleecing people out of their hard earned credit card balance.

No one is forced to buy it. Also -- everything is overpriced now. Buy singles (it's what I do) and let others eat the ROI and/or don't buy any wax and send a message to UD that prices need to be cut.

Breakers keep those prices afloat. Not wax buyers.

Breaking seems to be losing steam overall (fewer breakers now that just a year ago). In 2021-22 I'd agree, not today. Maybe this will lead to future sooner than later price reductions?

I dunno man. There seems to be more than ever on WhatNot and the biggest breakers are always doing Cup.

To us yes, when I go to my LCS on average every second trip there is someone who is "thinking of getting back into sports cards" that walks in, those people will be the ones thinking breaks are a "bargain"

I never thought about it like this but I think you might be spot on. A lot of us who were around well before the pandemic price bumps know what box prices were. For a lot of these high end break, the price of a spot in a case break is probably more than what a box cost back then. Like someone else said, just buy singles and let someone else worry about making their credit card payment at the end of the month. People gotta learn sooner or later right?

Have you seen how the average idiot deals with their finances? The answer is no.

The thing I find strange is when you view upper deck future product previews, you can see they list The Cup 23/24 but nothing for 2022-2023.

Didn't they do something similar with Ice, where they merged two years worth of cards into one product release?

bryan2points 03-20-2024 04:16 PM

Also, if a product releases a full year after the players rookie season(in this case it would release after their second season) is it really still a rookie card?

Whether or not it's a rookie depends on the product's date and whether that player has been included yet. There were a lot of late products during 2020 and 2021 (which direct contributes to this thread even being a thing), so if the requirement was the actual release year matching the product year there'd be a lot of current players without 'rookies' (as you're suggesting to define them) in multiple products. Thankfully for consistency and continuity that's not how they do things, but they have lumped multiple set years into one product release and it may be happening again with The Cup(?).

The20-21 Ice Premieres were done as a bonus pack in 21-22, and there was 20-21 Exquisite Updates available as hits.
