How to determine "perfectly sharp" corners?
2 Attachment(s)
I'm a newbie, preparing my first submission to PSA. I have many Topps basketball cards from the late 70's and early 80's in similar condition to the examples I'm sharing here. I could use some help understanding what PSA will determine as "perfectly sharp" corners. Below are some examples that appeared sharp to my naked eye, but magnified show imperfections. For each example I'm wondering if you think PSA would determine these to be "slightly frayed" or worse. Based *only* on the single corner in each example, what do you think the max card grading could be, assuming the rest of the card is perfect?
As a bonus question, I'm wondering how much you think I'd get dinged for the edges shown. Are these just rough cuts, or degradation? Thanks in advance, this will really help me determine how best to select cards for grading. Example 1: Green/Julius Example 2: Red |
1.) The corner looks soft, or at least the surface is cracked and/or missing some white ink towards the point. The edge is chippy too. You are looking at a PSA 8 on down, more like a 7 and down depending on the rest of the card.
2.) The corner looks okay-ish, but you got edge issues again, so again PSA 8 and down, Looks like surface issues too, so more like 7 and down. |

Agreed, but I would even say the top card would max out at a 6, since it looks like a wrinkle at the corner. Could just be a paper fiber in a weird location, but kind of looks like the start of a crease.

Thanks for your reply! I took another look and I think it is just the ink chipped off, rather than a crease. I will keep an eye out for creases and try to avoid them in my submission. Thanks again! |
