Mickey mantle auto experts- input on whether you think this is an authentic autograph

Hey, I would love input from Mickey Mantle autograph experts on whether this autographed Mickey Mantle baseball seems authentic.

Thanks

That is no good

IronCladLou 06-15-2023 06:43 PM

I am no expert and I will say no

Badgers0821 06-15-2023 07:01 PM

I have one at home which is pretty faded unfortunately but I would have to agree with the others, no go.

I am not qualified to say but after reading "Operation Bullpen," I could never buy an item like this. Tons of Mantle fakes out there.

He signed a good amount of Score insert cards in the early 90s. I think a collector with his wits about him could probably get a good auto there.

I am no expert either, I think a slight chance maybe but why not send it in to actual authenticators? Very strange that such a clean Mickey Mantle signature from 30 years ago has never been professionally authenticated. Cool find if it is genuine!

not an expert but have seen a few mantles and at first glance, my first instinct was no

csmtampa 06-15-2023 07:38 PM

Don't listen to the others. This is authentic and will pass authentication.

DaryanLenz 06-15-2023 07:49 PM

Everything anyone posts on here is always “no good” then you submit it and it comes back authentic. Do the same.

I would say no. How much was it? Any provenance? That can tell you as much as the opinions here...

It's comical how many people comment with no idea what they're talking about lol

Go here (Beckett Authentication) - https://www.beckett-authentication.com/signature-review

Submit a few pics of the ball. Pay $10. Get an email that says it is authentic

You didn't answer my .gif, so I will just ask "are you sure about that?"

Because I have looked at many many many mantles and this one does not look good to me. I may be wrong but I do not think so. I would not comment how its "comical" people do not know what they are talking about. It makes people look foolish when they are incorrect

Because it doesn't matter whether its genuine; it matters whether it can pass authentication -- there's a difference. If the signature can be passed off as genuine to regular folks, that's all that matters. That is the authentication game in a nutshell.

I've been buying and selling autographs a long time. This is a textbook authentic Mantle autograph. So it is comical when people comment with no idea what they are talking about.

csmtampa 06-16-2023 12:09 AM

I'll put my money where my mouth is and buy it for $250 :)

More power to you then, If you think its good go for it

I usually say no to most of these but this one looks legit. The auto matches to a tee. The pen thickness is consistent with how Mantle signed and the baseball has some yellowing, which is a good sign. Might even be a UDA baseball with the UDA sticker detached. I bet it passes authentication.

Mantle was maybe THE most prodigious signer back on the days. He literally signed millions of items. He was at every major card show. There should be a lot of legit Mantle autos out there not authenticated.

WMtribefan17 06-16-2023 11:03 AM

Thanks for the feedback everybody. For everybody saying no, can you clarify as to what part of the autograph seems off? I didn't notice any of the obvious fake traits to look for like banana "M's", the u shape in the "n", no drag on the i dot, and the auto seems to be leveled and lined up.

My dad (who passed away a couple years ago) said he got it signed from Mantle, I'm assuming at some event. I just came across it recently and wanted to see people's opinions on the auto.

I suggest joining the "Out or Safe" Baseball Signature Review page and paying the $6 or whatever they charge. The guys who run it are experts on Mantle balls.

Yeah, this further confirms that it's real. As stated before, back in the late 80s and early 90s, Mantle was literally at every major card show as the headlining signer for like $10 a pop. It will definitely come back authentic with any service.
